Hi all, I'm Terry from Livingston, soggy Scotland! H.O. comes from the name of my retired Greyhound, Horse Outside, love him to bits! I had a beautiful Bonnie a couple of years back, sold it and had a couple of years off bikes, now had 2 Royal Enfields in quick succession and saw a lovely Bonnie I just had to have. Its arriving tomorrow, coming up from Norfolk (by van), a 2003 790. Any one know this bike? HX03KFV Fully loaded with lots of toys, mileage a bit higher than I would have liked, but for the money I cant grumble. Reading the online MOT history its been off the road for a 2 1/2 years so the first thing to do is an oil change and service, I'll check the valves my self and get the bike booked in to do them if need be. Not having been back up to Scotland for long I dont know of any meets or ride-outs so I;m on the look out, but planning a couple of trips for next year, the Coast 500 at some point and possibly a trip down to Southend's Easter bike meet, so I might meet some of you in various places. No doubt I will have some questions on here too, so looking for to the new Bonnie experience. p.s. Electra X for sale!
Thanks all, Bikerman, 85.5 miles and a straight run for me, very doable for a ride out. Don't like the look of those battenburg coloured bikes thouh, hope they are friendly!
welcome in HO. congrats on the new bonnie. Hopefully you'll get in some good riding weather soon! Hopefully, now I have my Tiger I will be making the trip up to Scotland soon to visit some old haunts.
Cheers, planning the Coast 500 some time in the warmer weather depending which week summer is this year, but to include JoG too, the official route misses it out! Come back down the East side through Keiss to Wick, some nice views along that road.
What ho! H.O. Nice bike. The NC 500 is on my bucket list too for next summer-ish outside of midgie season, but most likely on a Sprint I'm looking to buy rather than on my @rse-numbing Bonnie.
Yo H.O. got my Heritage Softail from Weatherleys last year. Was a 500 mile round trip, but excellent dealer, lots old Brits and imports old Harleys especially iron head Sporties. I got a great deal on a Sporty I traded in, a very good dealer, old school works for me. Great looking Trumpet, mine was 2009 SE Bonnie tricked up. Love Scotland, probably be up there again next year. Enjoy
Hi again - just noticed your p.s. regarding the Electra X. I have an 05 model that's had the full Hitchcocks Trials conversion. I quite like it now that I've stripped a few more bits off it and fitted a MkI concentric Amal carb - wondered what you made of yours.
Generally, I like it, great fun to ride if you are not in too much of a hurry, had the iron 500 as well as a 350 AVL Thunderbird, would not even go near the EFI model though, too many things going wrong with them, I could have bought a new pre-registered one for what I paid for the Bonnie but went for quality! Cheap to run, cheap parts but you need to be handy with a spanner! Terry
I agree Terry, great fun to ride around on when not in a hurry but I kind of like that feeling. Fortunately I have a few spanners so manage to keep it held together - but they are relatively simple to work on and parts are so cheap. (cannot say the same about Triumph!). This one had the electric start removed so have had to master the dark art of kick starting. Few more bits removed since this pic was taken and the cheap mirrors have gone to be replaced with a single bar end one (inspired by Henry Cole's Metisse).
Yeh, I like that! I still have the starter, but have the 'green box' and 2 degree woodruff key fitted which seems to stop the spag destroying kick-back, down side is it makes the bloody thing nigh on impossible to kick startas the box is set to miss the 1st revolutions spark, not enough left on the kick down to get the second spark with enough push over firing stroke. Good for 80+mpg, but not really built for sustained motorway distances, hence the Bonnie. Will be interesting to see how R.E. get on with ABS & OBD2 fitment for 2017
Cheers - I'm getting around 76 - 78 mpg - so not bad as mainly short runs so far. Bonnie with carbs should be good for 55 mpg - once managed 61 out of mine. Definitely more fun on the motorway than an Enfield!
HEEEEEEEHARRRRRRRRRRRRRH! It arrived last night, in the dark, wouldn't start for me or the delivery driver, battery flat!! Not a good start, especially not knowing the Datatool alarm immobilizer either, had to have the seat off to get the battery out for charging..........big mistaker to maker, off goes the alarm! On the plus side, not heard a thing the missus has said all gay, just getting my hearing back although it seems very selective. Anyway, later to day the rain stopped, battery charged and new fuel put in, she struggles a bit only running tick-over revs, then I gently feathered in some more fuel and she picked up to 2000 revs and coughed upt0 about 4 to clear. Still a bit spluttery but I hope to get it out tomorrow for a run and perhaps clear it out. Its been sitting for a couple of years except for this years mot so probably stale fuel, amazing what a gallon or two of best Shell can do. Yep, I'm very pleased with it, beautiful colour, better condition than I thought, Datatagged, Datatool, engine bars, rack/back rest, screen, well pleased! Roll on SUMMER!
