Yeah, that's a different animal compared to the "normal" electric bike here in the UK. We have folding ones which fit in the back of the car when we're away - very useful for trips to the pub (once this Covid sh*t has buggered off). The motor only kicks in below 8mph and then cuts out at 15mph - the rest is up to you!
even worse with electric scooter (trottinette). 10 cm wheels, no brake, law says max 25 km/h, some speed up to 70km/h, no helmet required.. Some french cities starts to ban them due to high accident level. Same in UK?
Wait until there's a fatality - then I've no doubt that excessive Health and safety laws will be rapidly deployed (probably wide of the mark and inappropriately). Why are these things seemingly always ridden by dodgy looking tossers in track suits?
As I understand it the laws in the UK are similar. It is illegal to use an electric scooter on the pavement. It is also illegal to use a self propelled vehicle on the road without insurance - which is not available. Therefore, an electric scooter can only be used on private land. There are trials taking place that allow you to rent an electric scooter and the rental company has been able to put insurance in place. Therefore, the ONLY electric scooters that can be used are rentals and they can only be used on the road.
That depends who it was. In my experience with the one I got off my bestist mate its been great and I can’t complain That’s what bestist mate do.
You can have an electric scooter from 8 years old in France, and it's cheap. It potentially is much more dangerous and accessible than a bike. But, yes moped decimate the 14+ range. In France the new hype for rich teenager is to have little cars you can drive without license, kind of 4 wheels moped. The biggest factory of those is in my town. Aixam Years ago, those were mostly driven by old people or drinkers that lost their driving license.
A woman has lost her driving licence on the Isle of Man after being caught using a Scooter while way over the drink and drive limit https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-55709565
