    Hi all

i am very new here but not to motorcycling forums or motorbikes for sure. i have a 2015 ducati Multistrada 1200 s at the moment but thinking to became a triumph owner after seeing the quality of the products getting better and better. When i see the new Thruxton R i though to my self it was finished better then BMW RnineT even as good as Ducati.
I have been riding over 10 years. So over the years, i have many bikes either test ride or owned. I like to share with you my test ride and review about the Triumph Speed Triple R.

From the minute the dealer said "to start a triumph you have to pull the clutch in" i thought oh here we go! but soon as the triple start to purr my attitude change.
I never ride a Triumph or Triple before but ridden v4, v2, flat 6, flat twin, flat 4.

My first impression was how smooth was the triple comparing to a V-twin as soon as i sit on it everything felt just right. Comfortable seat, correct place for the foot pegs, nice bars , soft clutch ...
Ride by wire just feels normal and pulling away and stopping was as good as anything.

First and second gear was short but i like that. The bike really revs quickly and the weight wasn't there. Some speed triple owners mention that the bike is high but I find it just right. The geometry of the bike was just perfect. As much as i would have prefer the Pirelli Angel GT , there was Diablo Corsa ,s on the bike. 190 section rear tire was nice but i am sure if it can take a 200 it will look and feel even more planted, yes may be upset the turns but you never know.

So the bike got riding modes which is quite basic for this day and age, its 140 hp every time, in every mode. If you changing modes, the throttle respond, traction control levels and the abs levels are changing, they said. However i didn't really felt it. May be because this is triumph's first ride by wire that's why i didn't find it very precise like Ducati or BMW.

The fuel consumption was quite good for a 1050 cc 140 hp triple. I only manage to bring it down to 48 mpg, but if you ride normal it should be 50+mpg i am sure.

So only negative was the Throttle respond for me , on and off throttle i find it to snachy not as refine as Thruxton R ? May be it was the demo bike but when i open the throttle it suddenly accelerates, when you shut the throttle it almos going to throw me from the top of the bike. I only see this throttle respond on panigale 1299s on track mode. On Triumph even in Rain mode the bike was too snachy for my like but again why not on Thruxton ? any idea about it?

suspensions was far too harsh but it could be adjusted for sure.

    VERDICT

Believe or not, I put a deposit after riding the New Thruxton R ( what a bike ) now thinking again to ride them one after the other. For me i like all bikes, they are both street naked bike for me and yes speed triple was more powerfull but the truxton R was way to much fun. And i dont know if any of you see it yet but the quality of the finish is outstanding. Yes Speed Triple R was very good too.

now i am in between this two bikes will like your input too. I ride 2 up majority of the time. I commute to central london, Sunday blast and bike meetings sometimes also some little tours.

Even if i buy a Speed Triple R i will modify it like a cafe racer , with nice clip ons( comfy ones like Thruxton r) , Thruxton single head light, nice exhaust and may be a new fuel tank and yes 200 section rear tyre too. :)

PS. yes Thruxton R was heavier but way lighter then Multistrada :)

I understand what you mean when you say everything felt right, when I bought my first triple (2015)
I had three bikes in mind.
    MV Brutale
    Ducati monster
    And a speed triple
Really really liked the MV, but dealer was less than helpful. (No demo = no sale)
Ducati was No1 on list, always fancied one. But found it lumpy and unrefined.
So took a demo of the triple, all I could do when riding is grin.
I hadn't done any research on it, is I didn't expect to buy one.
I found the throttle on the 2015 a bit snatchie on my bike, the demo and my mates bike.
    But my 2016 is fine.
Also find myself liking the Thruxton, and I don't really go for modern classics like Bonnies etc.
