Over xmas I put a shallow dent in my fuel tank & just got round to getting it sorted. Tank drained, off, fixed, & back on yesterday.
Went for a ride to pick up some stuff & it appeared fine. Picked up stuff, crawled through town, then hit the twisty's to get home.

    Then I noticed an issue.
In the higher gears say 3rd, 4th, ... the bike seems to hit a false rev limiter around 7-8K revs. It'll red line in first & when in neutral, but when overtaking on a fast road or just giving it some it seems to hit a soft limiter. Then I change up & accelerate on. The throttle connection doesn't appear quiet at smooth either.
I tried a tank full of fresh fuel but its still there but slightly better.
Its difficult to replicate all the time as at the point in the rev's & gear its doing silly speed.

Any idea's as to my issue? have I maybe put some shit in the tank from the cans I drained the tank into?
Blocked fuel filter? Where is it - in the tank?

My first thought is to check your tank breather pipe, it sounds like it is getting a bit starved of fuel in the higher rev range.

If it's just the higher gears, sounds like fuel starvation. May be check out the fuel filter? If you have TuneECU check for any error codes and a "reset adaption" wouldn't do any harm. As far as I'm aware our pre '16 Speed3's don't have a gear sensor so shouldn't be a gear related mapping problem.

I think it is happening in higher gears because the engine is needing more fuel.
At low gears or neutral it takes very little fuel to red line, but in higher gears, the throttle is open further and sucking more juice, if there is a restriction in the fuel filter or breather pipe into the tank it would be holding back the fuel that is needed at higher revs in higher gear giving the symptoms you are experiencing.

I hope this helps identify the possible cause

    Good point Red.
Haven't checked out my S3 yet but remember my SprintST had two pipes and one had some sort of one-way valve, so I guess getting them the wrong way round might cause problems.
Also I assume tanks been resprayed, so have painters left a bung / blocked a hole somewhere?

Thanks, I'll try the breather pipes. I did label which went at the back & front.

The dent was popped out without any paint damage. There's no evidence it was there at all. Pre removal picture below.

Not perhaps a pipe that is pinched ?

Possibly a kinked or trapped throttle cable ! You had the tank off, maybe cables were disturbed and ended up in the wrong place once tank was reinstated ?? As your bike would be EFI its not likely a fuel line issue or a breather issue unless you've totally bolloxed it and almost totally blocked a line ! As fuel pump would send enough fuel through to injection fuel rail even if line was fairly badly crushed !

    Thanks for all the help.
The issue seems to have gone away. So I can only conclude that either a trapped pipe un-trapped itself when I went ti investigate or that I had a slug of very old fuel from the cans I drained the tank into.

    Thanks again!
