    Hi Everyone

Does anyone have mileage as I have on their tiger? Just the other day I was stuck in traffic for around an hour and started to experience issues disengaging gears and knocking into neutral. Since owning the bike selecting gears has always been quite noticeable, bike jumping forward and once in gear you can feel it, chain would snatch, changing through the gears was has always been as if the gear box has no synchronised gearing.

I purchased the bike with 7'000 miles and now I'm at 29K and the gear selection is more fierce than before. `i'm debating if I should bite the bullet and replace the friction plates, springs and cabling. Any tips on type of manufacturer I should use or stick to triumph OEM parts? Is there any tips I can try before going in deep replacing parts mentioned earlier?

    Look forward to your replies.

    Thanks

    Regards

    Manny

it is possible it is an oil issue, some oils are more prone to this problem than others. I know a lot of guys have had success by cleaning the original plates and changing the oil on their Triumphs ( not just Tigers),Motul 7100 seemed a popular choice. Check your clutch cable free play is correct and check gearbox oil level, the Sprint guys say it helps.
Also is the chain adjusted correctly as this would make a difference too, maybe you have a badly stretched chain with tight spots. I would check the simple things out first mate before you go buying stuff

I'd agree with sprintdave, check the simple stuff first.
Clutch cable might be worth having a look at as well, just to check it not streched.
Mine's fairly sensitive to chain adjustment,if it's a bit slack you'll feel it in the gears first.

    Thanks Sprintdave
I will check the cable adjustment, chain and oil levels today. Just to let you know I use MOTUL V300.

    Appreciate the advice.

    Thanks road rider,
Hopefully the advice you guys have offered will do the trick? Incidentally does anyone know how many miles the original clutch could achieve? I know this is very dependant on how you ride, town work or open road, just as an average?

my 1992 trophy 900 has done 55000 miles on the original clutch and when I striped it to replace the sprag clutch it looked fine so it went back, I assume it would be the same clutch plates as on your tiger ? I also know somebody who has 72000 on there Triumph original clutch.

Thanks thats answered the question then. Just readjusted the cable and although it seems better I'm not convinced I've sorted it out. Since having this bike the clutch has always been a problem. We will see, once I can put some miles on it I can see if the adjustment has worked, Failing this it will need to be strip, review, soak and rebuild. Hopefully the pin that actually pulls the clutch assembly has the correct recess to allow enough oil to get through?

Thank you again for the information, appreciated.

It also might that the plates are not moving correctly in the basket i.e. bured or stepped, it is not a big job to have a look and check them out,
good luck and let us know what you find if anything :)

Thanks Keith it looks pretty straight forward other than having to purchase 3 gaskets getting the clutch housing exposed and removed but heh, cheaper than taking it down to triumph!! I will let you know how I get on.

Manny if you are careful removing the cover ect you can use the same gaskets with a light smear of hylomar on refit just the once :)
