Some of the nuts and bolts on this bike have been messed up over time. Ie. Wrong spanners resulting in rounded heads, threads stripped etc. what is the general feeling about replacing tired nuts, bolts and threads with metric? for instance, The carb (Amal) has two different size fixing bolts. I a considering 8mm bolts and threads. These will probably be better. any views would be welcome
the old threads will be whitworth ? and CEI. you cannot thread a modern bolt into the hole, either metric or SAE. through bolts like motor mounts are where you can do what you like. i use modern NF SAE on everything i can
When I restored a BSA years ago I just bought new stainless imperial nuts and bolts so of you can get those that's what I'd do.
Thanks for your replies. Note I am becoming more familiar with this site I will e these discussions to the technical area. @littleade where did you get those SS fixings?

Sorry, it was a long time ago so I can't remember other than the company was in Redditch, England. Best you can do is search the internet for what you want
