I just repurchased my 1955 Triumph 500 from a friend who I sold it to over 30 years ago. It was a stripped down 500 that someone had used to hill climb in the 60's. Unfortunately, my friend had taken everything apart and scattered the parts over the various places he lived. I am attempting to see what I have and what I need to move forward. I am not sure what I want to make out of it as a lot of the original street parts were not included as I got it over 30 years ago. I was hoping to get some ideas from people on this forum about sources for for parts and what sort of look could be achievable. I have seen some pictures of early Triumph street/rat/cafe/tracker bikes that could work but I am not sure which way to go yet. We have not exhausted all of my friends hiding places but the big items I am missing so far include the cylinders and piston/con rods, the lower clamp for the front forks, the forks themselves. Any help in directing me to places to find items that would work would be appreciated.
What a great project and I understand your quandary in which way to go with it. It would be fascinating to follow your documented rebuild. I wish. you well with it. Is it too far gone to restore it to the form you sold it in 30 years ago? Oldfart
Yeah, I could probably get it back to that but it was a hodgepodge of a build so I would like it to look something like a mid 50's Triumph.
Welcome...Pictures please ! Sounds like a great basis for a old school vintage modified bike. Sounds like great fun ! ...J.D.
Hi Michael and welcome to the forum best of luck finding the remaining bits. Mid-fifties so no choppers then I would trawl through the builds threads and search for parts recommended
