Stop press! I've got hold if someone who was interested in the Daytona early on in the listing and he wants it! He lives in Devon though and wants to pay into my bank and then get a courier to collect. Is this an acceptable way to do business? I've only ever dealt with cash on collection before.
Result Doesn't sound too bad as the cash will be in the bank. As long as it's not PayPal as I think they could do some kind of reversal and have the money back as well as your bike! !
Can't really help you on that one bud, I've never worked that way myself. I'd imagine if the money clears you account THEN the courier takes it there should be an issue. I know that's big business now, people couriering bikes and cars that were bought online, worst case I'd call one of the couriers and ask the question, worst they can say is "F**K OFF " Best of luck
I'm with DD on this one. Cleared funds, not via PayPal, is safe. However I wouldn't give my bank account details to a private individual on-line, I'd ask for a bank or B.Soc cheque for safety irrespective of their ebay feedback history. Too many scammers on line who can hi-jack ebay accounts. And you should choose and arrange the courier so you know proof of delivery.
Hell no I wasn't inferring that at all ,just sowing a seed that he needs to get himself some overtime in, maybe set aside some other things to enable him to secure the DREAM PS Annoyingly DD is correct again and his advice is spot on, Give the guy your sort code and account number(dont panic completely safe check it out) then check your bank to confirm funds are in transfer to another account or remove money, then release your bike to the courier but take more pictures just before collection and even during !!! GOOD LUCK
Just to add my humble opinion on this: Say, you have 1000,- in your account. Someone transfers 2000,-. You take the 2000,- out to a different account. Then the other person (legally) claims the money back. Well, now your account shows: -1000,- in debit. I do not know, if it works different in England. Otherwise I fully agree with you, DD!
No you are right that could happen. The original £2000.00 might be safe in another account but that still leaves your normal account vulnerable.
littleade is correct me thinks !!1 I think when funds are paid direct into your personal account for a private sale they couldn't then try and re-claim it back via your bank, I reckon it would need taking through many legal stages before it involved your bank account, I.M.H.O.
I would still be careful! I will admit that I'm not totally sure what can and can't be taken and exactly what the rules are but who trusts banks these days!
Thanks for the advice everyone, the money has gone into my account and he's organising a courier. Spoke to him earlier and I know you can't be absolutely certain but he seems a 100% genuine guy. And in other news I've managed to bag a 61 plate black Speedmaster with only 6700 miles, full service history and Triumph loud pipes on it. I have to say to call it immaculate is an understatement! It looks like it just come out of the factory! I viewed it a few days ago when mine was still on eBay and he said he'd wait until my listing ended, unfortunately as you know it didn't sell, he then arranged for someone else to view it today but they couldn't make it so he assured me it's mine now I've sold the Daytona! I'm buzzing!
With all that talk of bank transfers, and this being the modern day where you can do chip and pin, contact less, PayPal and a hundred more ways to pay, I got to admit I'm still pretty caveman in that I prefer to deal in cash. I don't know anything other than blackmail that can get you the kind of deal you get when you pull out a stack of notes and say "now are you SURE this isn't enough?"
Just got to arrange a date for mine to be collected then I'll bring home my new baby I'm off on Tuesday day and then on Tuesday night and Wednesday night so hopefully Tuesday onwards. This is the hard bit, once you've agreed a deal you just want it on your drive! I must admit I've only ever had race bikes so I'm a bit nervous as to whether I'll love it or not, I know you'll all laugh but after watching all of the "Sons Of Anarchy" series I fell in love with the cruiser's. That and the fact I still get roped in by the tw#ts in the Audi's/BMW's and when I've destroyed them I realise I nearly left my daughters without a dad
