So I became a Triumph owner last year when I bought 2012 Street triple R from 3 cross. Before the Triumph I had a 98 Blade and a 1952 Vincent. I love the Street as a play thing but have only done 1000 miles this year and last Sunday I found that we do not gel. I had been out for about 3 hours and the next day my neck was killing me. In 2010 I came off the Vincent and fractured C2, I only got back on a bike in March and thought that I would be OK without a screen but it seems not so I am now looking to sell the Street and buy a Triumph America, also the wife thinks might slow me down a bit :biggrin: So I am on the lookout for a nice America on ebay and will post pics when I find one and in the meantime I have lots of reading to do on this great forum :upyeah:
Hi & welcome to the forum. The America is a superb bike but you might want to fit a screen to protect your neck as it can get a bit blustery at higher speeds.

Thanks Harvey, I am looking for a bike with all the extras like a screen, pipes, foot boards, bags etc and if the wife has her way it will be blue & white :biggrin:
The footboards are so comfortable & i regularly scrape mine on roundabouts & twisties. As for the pipes, if it has standard pipes all you need to do is slash cut them & knock a few lots of baffles & they will look & sound just like Triumph TORS exhausts.
There are quite a few on ebay at present that tick your boxes mate, are you looking for a carb or injection bike? Good luck!

Welcome to the forum, a wise choice but don't forget to look at the speedmaster also a crackin ride :upyeah:
Main differences are America has more chrome, engine casings are chrome as standard & Speedmaster has black casings, different handlebar & riser combinations (obviously changing riding position) different mirrors (I think America was round as standard & Speedmaster was ovalish), different seats on some models depending on year of manufacture (America normally has twin seats where as Speedmaster has rider & pillion seat in one). Speedmaster has a rev counter in the tank dash panel where as America has a blanking panel (rev counter from Triumph is £100, 5 mins to fit, simple plug & play). Speedmaster has twin front brake discs & America has a single disc. Speedmaster also has a different front fender plus the different colour schemes. Early models of both had chrome spoked wheels & later models had cast alloy wheels. Engine & drivetrain to the best of my knowledge are identical for both models. 790cc on early models & 865cc on later models, both with carburetors & a 5 speed gearbox. I believe the multi-point fuel injection came out in 2008 for both America & Speedmaster. I think thats about it :wink:
Thanks for the info Harvey, lots to think of while I am looking. I have my ST-R booked in for it's 1 year service with performance triumph so will get a test ride on an America at the same time :biggrin:
the thing is you can put as much chrome or least that you want ,always loads of bits on e bay so you can change just about anything without the new prices, so they as much the same :upyeah:
