Asked about cloudy headlight replacement through Triumph warranty/aftersales for my 2011 Speedy

Sadly the answer is no....Even though they were replaced by the dealers under warranty in 2014 and have still gone cloudy.

They did happily tell me if I bought some new ones they will come with 24 months warranty.....I so nearly told them where to shove it too :D

Write a letter to Triumph explaining how this has put you off buying any more from them in the future :D

Better still find them on Facebook AND Twitter and add @dailymail or some such newspaper, I have had some good responses from various large companies by doing that

Post on Triumph and Official Triumph Twitter done....

Oh yeah also added Paul Lilly UK manager on the tweets...

I could understand if they were years old but they told me they were replaced in 2014 so they may be a few months out of warranty....But it's a known issues that's happened for years

They asked to see proof of service history....I'm sure if the service book had all Triumph stamps they would have been replaced......

Whilst your writing the letter would you be so good as to ask them why, on a "brand new" 2015 s3r bought in April of this year, from a dealership in Australia there was a 3 mm crack in the front wheel rim around the valve preventing it from holding tyre pressure, (a casting or forging flaw! ho hum, shame it came down to me to find the problem!) finally replaced under warranty. And, all be it a lesser problem (at the same time) the seat latch was fitted so improperly it cracked the seat cowl at the fixing points when trying to reattach the seat, needed all 12 stone of my body weight to lock it back down. (again the seat cowl was replaced by dealership) and in fairness not a critical safety issue this time. However, then we sheared the 2 torx bolts clean off while trying to address this problem. (only hand tools used). So in my experience the answer you will get back from Triumph will go something like this .... "sorry mate but the bikes are not made in Japan! Our quality control is from the 50's when we were really big, so suck it up". Sorry to sound so bitter but having ridden bikes for 27 years now (always Jap) and never having any problems like this with them. Now I'm down $20000 on this bike (that I'm stuck with for at least 3 more years) Ye guess I'm a little anti triumph quality control at the moment.

Although i love my old 69 Bonneville i have mostly ridden Jap bikes because of the good service and warranty backup, i brought my Triumph speed triple on a bit of a whim after deciding that sports bikes were no longer for me and so far all is well and i am very pleased with my bike but i do wonder whether Triumph have really got their finger on the button with after sales and warranty with all the bad press you see. One thing for sure is that the hipster fad and PCP's is helping new sales in the short term but this will not last forever and as i see more and more bad experiences of new owners being fobbed off with poor excuses how long before they go bust yet again :(

I just messaged the UK manager and told aftersales I've used social media to inform other potential owners of these issues

Let's see if I get anything back

We should have a warranty page as it's in the interest of both owner/riders and Triumph to have proper debate on problems so as it can be sorted, clearly there are issues that are not being sorted and i for one would never buy another new Triumph if i ever have a problem and its not dealt with in a professional manner, some of the stories going around about how dealers are fobbing off customers is very sad.

I've since had Triumph follow me on Twitter and tell me to take it to a dealer as they can't do anymore without a dealers report stating they are faulty :D

Off to the dealers I go.....

Please do link the relevant twitter accounts, it would be good maybe for us to follow this, maybe even offer some gentle persuasion towards Triumph

I received my 2016 with a defective rear shock. Showa quality issue to be sure. Triumph did expedite shipping a new shock from UK to USA but it was lost by the local delivery company here in AZ. Called Triumph and they told the dealer to "borrow" one from another in-stock bike. My warranty experience has been fine so far.

Now, on to the headlight lens concern. Is this internal to the lens or external? Our C6 Corvettes seem to have a recurrent problem with the inside of the lens clouding up. You can not purchase just the lens and a set of replacements is well north of $1,000 USD. A number of us are filing complaints with the National Traffic Safety Board (NTSB) to document this as a SAFETY DEFECT. I would think that the UK also has a similar governing body to document and force manufacturers to rectify safety issues. Could you try writing them, even better have a friend who is a barrister do it on official stationary, and copy Triumph on the correspondence? Do you have a friend who is a copper? Perchance they could write you a defective equipment ticket to document the concern of poor illumination? Documentation is good and irrefutable. Use the "applied fecal accretion theory", throw enough of the smelly brown stuff at them and something will stick that they will need to clean up. Hope this sorts out in your favor as lights equal safety.

    Cheers,

    Chris

Firstly Jody, I feel your pain, I had a bad experience with Ducati over a 2013 Multistrada I bought new and had a catalogue of problems with during the two year warranty period, and then again just out of warranty which was not resolved to my liking. The result....I got rid (at considerable expense) and I'm unlikely to buy another Ducati.
Not being much comfort to you, but I've had six Hinckley Triumphs (mostly new and each kept several years) with few problems, and those I've had were resolved without hassle.
My conclusion, it depends much on luck as to whether we "bond" with a manufacturer or not, it seems everyone has a tale of woe with one manufacturer or another (including the japs).
I hope you manage to get satisfaction from Triumph.

Darkman: good suggestion, we should have a faults page, perhaps one on each model forum, where members can log any problems they've had (warranty or otherwise), that way we can easily see any common/recurring issues..... and hopefully solutions.
Don't know how we go about getting that done?

Anybody else had the cloudy headlight problem? (if so please post - it's more ammo for Jody's cause)
Jody have you had the bike from new? If so needing a second replacement seems more than bad luck, either it's a common component fault (hopefully members will post if they've had the same), or there's an external cause, possibly cleaning product used? Again forum members experience could eliminate that possibility.
I've seen similar on some cars with polycarbonate headlight lenses, but usually older than two years, not sure if it's a result of uv (not exactly the sunniest climate here in the uk) or some other form of contamination.

A reminder to all SpeedTriple owners, if you have any warranty issues (resolved or not) please post on a thread I started here
I'll PM the administrator (only just discovered we have such a thing :)) to see if it can be made a sticky.
That way we can monitor whether there are any recurring issues (which also adds weight for anyone having problems making a claim).
