    Hello all,

I'm going to try modify an early tailpiece trim to have the same "curves" as the later trim piece. As a few of us know the Speed Triple/Daytona seat cowl looks a bit funny as it is more curved and sits higher when fitted to a bike with the earlier flat trim tailpiece.

I have purchased a spare trim piece for £8 on eBay
I will be purchasing some paint for my bike (Cherry Red) and some filler, hopefully I can find a profiler so I can get rough guide on how much filler I'll have to add to the existing trim piece.
Finally I will spray the new trim piece and purchase a seat cowl replica from Sprint Manufacturing.

    Watch this space!

Paint purchased ! and panel profiler - this might take a while.....

My plan is to use my dads one (he has a 1994 Daytona) as a guide, fingers crossed I can get a descent match

    Thanks Dave

The main reason for giving this a go is to see whether it is possible and is it cheaper than purchasing new trim panels. Also it might encourage other Triumph owners to give it a go themselves.

Cheers for the inspiration fellas, the seat cowl has arrived from sprint manufacturing, however, it is a Christmas present from the family, so I can't have it just yet (boohoo) hopefully everything else should arrive in the next few days.

Yeah that looks really smart! Hopefully as long as I can get it to follow the contour of the seat cowl I'll be very happy

Is there a John Smiths variant available? :D

Filler arrived and spray paint, just waiting for the allusive trim now :)

Well there's a couple of beauties to give you some ideas. Mine would have to be Jim Beam Devil's Cut themed.

    All the best with it.

    Hello all,

Unfortunately, I had initially purchased a profiler, and then my purchase was cancelled and refunded - emailed them asking why, no response, so I purchased another from another seller. This never arrived and he suggested it got lost in the post so asked me if I wanted a refund, so I did.
I've gotten a bit impatient so my dad made a similar profile out of wood and offered it against the old trim. I sanded it down and started applying filler..

Here it is so far. (Wouldn't get a job at Blue Peter that's for sure)

Still needs to add filler over it and sand it down.

Added more fill this morning and sanded it down, what a soul destroying job.

Whilst I let it set I thought I'd paint the cowl. Looks great with only 2 coats....

Its beginning to take shape !

So close now, just need some stopper to fill in the small craters and we'll be good for some paint.

More sanding, and added a bit more stopper, hopefully that will be the last before paint.

Also test fitted the cowl on the seat.

At this rate I'll be finished before winter properly begins!

    Cheers,

    And finally the cowl fitted.

Was a bugger to fit, we had to shave a lot off the seat plastic and foam, and some of the cowl where it sits against the trim piece. We also had to re drill the original mounting holes.

    Looks great though! image1.JPG image2.JPG image3.JPG
