If you went mid-week to the Stelvio you wouldn't think of it as anywhere near ordinary Dougie - trust me !!!!!!! The most glorious road and scenary. Plus this beautiful Italian bird who run the hotel at the top - well worth a visit !!
Been there summer 2015 on a week long tour. Had Bourg Saint Maurice as a base. Have you got any pictures? I didn't take a lot during that particular holiday 'cos I FORGOT my camera. Not a lot being zilch. All I've got is stuff from mates who failed to provide me with piccis of Col du Mont Cenis... We came from Susa in the South, rode the Col du Mont Cenis followed by the Col du Iserant. And because it was so brilliant we did it again the other way round a couple of days later That is one part of the world I don't get to on a regular basis but I sure love it. Also the only country where I got a speeding ticket...
I've no doubt the scenery would be spectacular Dave, and if i had loads of time i probably would do it mid week and stay at the hotel at the top!
Sorry but i don't have any pictures, i only came across it by mistake after stopping in Modane years ago when on my way to Italy in a truck. I will look through my old photos if i can find them as i am sure i have some of me going down the steps into Italy
