Thruxton Am I being silly or is this poor quality on a new bike?

Mine also have this, but as the plastic is simply there to ensure the spring never rubs against the shock, I'm not really concerned about it. Given that the spring can and will distort as it compresses, the likelihood of it moving in 1mm somewhere on its length is pretty high, so the plastic simply makes sure it doesn't make contact with the metal.
I guess the shock could have been made slimmer, to give more clearance, or the spring could have been given a larger radius in the middle, but both of these affect the damping/compression/rebound so presumably they chose these sizes for a reason.

Also, when the spring vibrates horizontally it can easily hit the shock, and unlike mono-shock setups these have really long springs! Most of the setups like this have either a huge sleeve on the shock itself or a significant similar protector (look at this google search result), but my guess is that they wanted the silver of the shock to show, so settled for the latter in the form of an itsi-bitsi plastic shield. I suspect their error here is to use a plastic that shows the scratches so easily. I'm sure if it were something like teflon based we'd not see them and not comment.

I'll be interested to see if a 'fix' is proposed, as there's no reason to not have one if it exists, but if we simply get identical replacements that show the same in a few months then I'll stick with the first set for simplicity :)

I’ve been out on my thruxton R twice, covering only 190 miles. It was wet the second time out on Sunday, so when the bike cooled down, I washed it and dried it off as much as I could, went in the garage tonight and noticed all this corrosion appearing! The quality standard is absolutely crap! My ‘98 bandit has less corrosion than this!!!

This reminded me...I follow a YouTuber Jaret Campisi and his girlfriend Christina Khalil. They are currently customizing a new Triumph 675R (to give away) and have ran into several quality issues. The most blaring to me...and them, I think...is when they replaced the exhaust and showed the stock exhaust. The welds were so unexaggeratingly (is that a word?) bad that they best described it as looking like Stevie Wonder welded the stock exhaust with his feet. Check out the videos...it's bad. Come on Triumph!! I'm glad I bought the extended warranty and hope I never need it.

    Is it handbuilt in Thailand?:eek::eek::eek::eek:;)

I know someone who works in purchasing and he reckons the Thai quality was supposed to be better than the uk quality now! I really hope not, looking at this. Looks like ACF50 is gonna have to be put on virtually everything, to try and preserve it. I’ve only just made my first payment on it as well

Get it straight back to the supplying dealer and don't take any they all do that crap, the sale of goods act says the onus is on the supplier and the items you refer to are not for for purpose they are obliged to resolve the issues with you and then they have to sort it out with the manufacturer.
Good luck and don't take any buckshot from them it's a 12.5K bike!
    Regards, Pete

Washed with car shampoo, then rinsed off with cold water, then dried off with a cloth as much as possible.
I think the problem might be more down to condensation in my garage! Still shouldn’t go like that this quick, even if it was stood outside!
Just bought a dehumidifier last night to try out. Also thinking of getting one of those pet blowers, so I can dry the bike properly after washing it

I’m gonna email the photos over to Dave Lilley and see what he says. He can have a proper look at it, when he does the first service. Will be booking it in, as soon as I’ve done another 290 miles

That’s good to know. Didn’t realise that about cold water first!
That’s a good price for the blower, if you can live with a pink one. Will have to get one ordered ASAP
Even washing the bike the other way round, it should never get like that, just sitting in the garage. I’ve put my bandit away dripping wet and it’s never looked like that!

I’m hoping so, but fear it might be a bit futile, when my wife comes home with a dripping wet car and puts it in the garage :(
I’ve been trying to dry it off, to get most of the water off it, to minimise the dampness

i would be bloody fumming with my bike looking like that to be honest , good call for the dehumidifier i have one runnning 24/7 this time of year and it amazing how much water it can pick up in 24hours over 5 litres and it a brick built garage double glazing and plenty of insulation the loft area and have tried my best to seal the door the best i can with trims etc . another way to dry your bike off is a small compressor and blow lots of the water off has lots of other uses tyre pressure /clean bike jets running air tools etc
i have just send my wheels of for going tubless and having stainless spokes fitted at the same time, i know if i did not get them replaced they would end up corroding and there seems to be people with spokes going like this already and basically new bikes

I’ve alred been watching that thread :joy:
I’ve sprayed some ACF50 on a cloth and wiped it over the corrosion and it looks a lot better now, but it’s a right ball ache having to do that, every time you wash it :(
    This was reply from dealer

“Thanks for the photo. The items are given a coating & with the lovely salt that gets put down by the council & rain they can “fur” up. It is possible to clean that off with some scotch brite – although it may not completely go.

When you come in for service, we can have a look/clean while it’s on the bench if that’s easier.”

in other words they dont give too f**ks
have had suzuki bikes and they are great bikes and everybody knows that they are bit on budget side on the fasteners etc ,but you sort of know that when you buy one
that abs generator ring looks like it needs painting if not replacing you would have thought the dealer might have suggested that and replace the disc bolts so at least they look interested in helping .
they have sold you the bike now basically f**k off
i would be having a few words to be honest

I’ll see what they say, when I take it for it’s first service.
The ABS ring is already painted black on the back disc, but the front is plated
