just been out with swmbo to get her new bike gear.

Did 106 up the motorway (nowt new) but when I came off she was running rough between 3k and 4K revs. Then stopped at some lights and the temp crept up to 101!!!

On the way back temp would creep up to just over 80 but stay there but the engine light came on as well. Got back into town and she kept stalling at lights as well as being stuttery between 2.5k and 3.5k revs.

Missus says she smells petrol fumes, I've no smoke coming out the exhaust either.

Filled up at tesco just before we left. Coincidence??

    Could be a Thermostate Issue?
Just out of interest did the bike get that hot or just the gauge show it?(may be Electrical)

Have you used much of that Tesco fuel so there's space to put more in, from a known good source of course?

Mate from work nipped round and said its only running on 2 cylinders.

He reckons fuel from Tesco is the problem and he's going to do the plugs on Friday for me :)

Noticed today that in slow moving traffic my fan on a number of times, the first time in what is now nearly 2 weeks. The motor was popping a little more as well.

I don't use my bikes for commuting these days, dry Sundays only, so my mileage is low and the bikes sit around.
to prevent carbs and efi gumming up I use redex petrol clean treatment, put a dash in on every fuel top up, and only use good fuel, BP or Shell when I can find it.
My Adventurer fan used to come on when in uban traffic, even on a mild day, never knew what was normal operation.

    Sorry, been at work!

The temp thing sounds ok then, it didn't go higher than 101 and I've checked the coolant which is full. Will throw some redex in Friday after we've done the plugs :)

Forgot to ask, will the engine light go off on its own once it's running ok?

Ok, plugs done and running on 3 cylinders again :)

Still won't idle properly but think that's due to the crap fuel.

Stuck a whole bottle of redex in to help it through, will fill with decent fuel once emptied a bit and pray!!

They dont like duff batteries....that could be the cause of the engine light?...is it still on? if so three heat cycles are probably needed

If possible and you have room I would top it up with Premium now, or as you go
to keep diluting the shite as much as possible

I think a whole bottle of redex might have been over enthusiastic!, it's supposed to do about 10 gallons, you might find that this will make it run ragged.
As Tez says, top up with premium, Texaco or BP, run it to half tank and repeat, this will dilute the redex which will be doing the job.
With the old bikes you can switch off the fuel at the tank and leave to run until out of fuel, this ensures that the carb is left with no fuel in to leave residues, but with efi you can't do that, this is why I use redex, one bottle should do about half a dozen fill ups when used as a preventative measure.
Good luck, this gives you a good reason to be out and about this weekend burning off the crap mixture.
