Hi all. I'm hoping to build a cafe racer out of a trophy 1200 engine and frame I bought for £80. The engine had cylinder damage from water ingress, which rusted the piston number 2 and the valves. I have currently got it stripped down and the blocks are out at the engineers for skimming. I'll upload pictures of my progress soon. Hope it's interesting for people to help out and make suggestions and watch in general.

Thats going to be very helpful. Thank you, i hope i manage to keep at it. I've got some handy mechanic friends and workshop space. But i'm hoping to do most of it at home, at least the engine part.

So here are a couple of pics of coming home. I got the engine, frame and electrics/grips/switches rad and exhaust for £80. The second picture is the lump in the garden, you can see the rusted cylinder. The piston was pretty stuck. Third pic is the next day with the engine stripped. And the last pic is me playing find the keeper. I didn't have a valve tool so used sunglasses and needle nosed pliers. I need to take more pics as i go along. The carbs are off and cleaned, but i'm confused as to how many o rings i should have, 2? I seem to have 5 small one sand one big one. Thats obviously not right. I'll post some more pics when the cases and cylinder head come back from the shop. My plan is to strip it and respray it black using VHT paint. Although i'm up for suggestions!

    I give up, I can't see the collet ;)

Good luck with your build, I built a trophy-based special this spring, which benefited greatly from the removal of 50+KG of redundant luggage, bodywork & silencers :D

    It was there somewhere!
Do you have a link to your build? Did you have to do any engine work? It's nice to hear about a finished project. Thanks for the good luck. The cyl head is done so I'll be seating the valves on Wednesday. The piston barrels are cleaned now too, so need to aquire a gasket set.

I haven't posted a build thread yet. I may get around to it eventually. I'll post a picture of the bike after work later.

    Thanks
thanks mate. I have stared at it for longer than necessary. I can't really do much now until I get the gaskets and glues. I might strip the paint off the cases next.

Hi all, hope everyone is well. i haven't put much on here with my progress. Life and all that. But the engine is nearly back together, here are some of the photos of it cleaned up and putting back together. The head is going back on this week, its had new compression rings /studs. piston heads have been changed, gears and o rings all changed. Balancers back in, then to seat the cams and rocker. Should be finished next week. Then to chop the frame. As its a long frame i'm hoping to take quite a bit off. i'll post more pictures when i've done stuff. Thanks for looking!
