What, Trumpets with electrical issues? Never!!

Well, actually, they have been the bane of my Triumph owning experience for the last 20+ years. The old complaint about the early Hinckley bikes not being fitted with a big enough battery plagued my partnership with the Daytona 900 which demanded a new battery every five minutes! OK, 18 months maximum.

You'd have thought that Triumph would have sorted it out by now, or at least managed to arrange for a warning to be given, rather than this sudden expiry. However, the Daytona did at least let you know that she would be looking for a new one a month or so before packing up completely.

It could be worse though. The story is that when Massey Ferguson styled the MF135 with its shiny new shape they forgot to allow a space for the battery, hence it being crammed in at the bottom of the steering column where you can't get to the damn thing. True or not, it's a pain change over.

Trip home from Dublin today on the Explorer and whoopee, managed to get the hang of the cruise control! Also sussed out the trip meter and for anyone interested, since it was last reset, 2000 kms ago, it has averaged 44mph and 45mpg.

Battery is the original so circa June 2023. How many times it's been depleted though, I don't know. I bought the bike last year with 3K on the clock but it was delivered with a weak battery and loose terminals and failed to start the day after the courier had dropped it off. I put that down to loose terminals but it could be that it had been depleted enough to reduce it's overall capacity.I suspect that it needs to be on 99% tospin up that big engine.

I have an Optimiser tender. It's been on that thoughout the winter, albeit off the bike in rotation with the two batteries from my other bikes.
The Optimiser said it was at full charge after an hour of being an charge today but I'm questioning whether it can still reach full charge.

Took it in for a service and a few bits of broken plastic bodywork replacing. Bought a new Triumph tee shirt too as it was in the sale. Then the longer way home. It’s ready to go now.

Today I rode to my dealer with my Rocket to change a "drowned" turn signal by a warranty repair from Triumph. It took me only a phone call and sending a photo to my dealer and after a few days I was invited to show up for the exchange at my dealer. My dealer did not had any problems with Triumph to get the needed parts for free for me. During my "hard rain tour" in late February it drowned due to a hairline crack in the housing.
While the 20 minutes "pit stop" I had nice talks with some other bikers.
As always I had to ride a distance of 200 kilometres through a great landscape of the Pre-Alps.
Now everything is in perfect condition again! ;)

At the ride for the 1.000 km service the turn signal obviously "drowned".

On the next day after some cleaning I found the drowned turn signal.

I've found a mapping option to try so getting closer to putting on the pipe. TuneECU is quite the program.

Today I've been marshalling for a charity fundraising Rideout organised by Bishop Mark of Chester called the BBBMF Biking Bishop's Biking Mission Fund.

Cool damp set out at 9:30 am (Bike needs a clean again:confused:), comfortable but cloudy return at 17:00. Now finally identified the source of my slow leak on the back tyre.

    IMG_4181.jpg

Its only about 2mm in diameter. Anyone know a good Motorcycle tyre repairer in the Northwich area?

Pictures of the Rideout and a bit about the charity in a separate thread so this thread doesn't get hijacked.:)

Ask your local tyre supplier but if the tyre is 'Z' rated the recommendations are that they are not repairable.

In Sandbach there is F and B Motorcycle Tyres. I have used them and have always found them competitive, friendly and good service.

Thanks, I used him to get my current Avon Roadrider 2s, really good guy, quick efficient, friendly, looked after the rims and very reasonably priced. I wasn't sure if he did repairs because his website doesn't mention repairs, but does offer one of those "slime" options which I'm not keen on. I'll give him a call, because if he does repairs I'll definitely be going to him.

Z rated tyres can be repaired, they recommend only once and as long as it is small and in the centre of the tyre such as yours so should be ok ;)

Only place I know locally is Bikerz in Hanley. Don't put any glue/slime in the tyre as that will make it unrepairable.
