It could be that with the multiple Honda 750 and Suzuki 800 twins now on the market Triumph wanted to appear to be in that size range more. The 660 and 900s possibly sounding that bit smaller/bigger putting some people off, even if only psychologically.

I also think the Tiger moniker has got a bit lost and confused over the years ie first models were light adventure, then they were road bikes marketed as adventure bikes, then full on adventure models. At least the later road going models are branded Tiger Sports, so that ppl get a inkling of the intended usage.

" it gives the impression of having been built to a lowish budget when you look around it."
So it looks like I'll be sticking with the 900 for a bit longer yet..."

I would suggest a test ride. When I tested the 660 Sport last year the only area which felt appreciably worse than my Tiger 800 was the suspension. The brakes were markedly better and the engine seemed as good. I was amazed that they made it so good for the price. You might find the 800 Sport better than you imagine and you don't look at its arse whilst your riding it!

Looks like they have had the launch. Ride tests starting to appear online. Unsurprisingly the performance is reported as comparable to the Tracer 9.

Sat on at NEC, deposit down on a yellow one, test in March. Trading from a Tiger Sport 850. Will let you know how I get on with it.

How exciting, I thought it was very comfortable when I sat on it at the NEC and the yellow paint job is gorgeous!

I looked at one at my dealer, its a well finished bike and will suit a lot of riders but I'll be keeping my 900gtpro for the time being did not like the very small display and the cruise control isn't adjustable once set.....and of course that chopped off rear
