Thank you for a great laugh shared at our house! With a '71 Norton and '76 Bonnie in the garage, my HH and I about nodded our heads off our necks in agreement at the elementary and inescapable logic;):joy:

Without the need for yet another App the easiest way to reduce the file size on photos and keep the original file untouched is to email them to yourself. During the process you have the opportunity to choose image, and therefore file size.

Not my original thoughts but something I picked up on one of the bike forums I frequent.

i can t post an image but every triumph clutch ive ever worked on has an adjuster screw that threads into the pressure plate, against the clutch push rod. you rotate a small adjuster screw in and out to adjust free play on the pushrod, and then tighten a locknut over the screw to retain the adjustement.

on unit motors, the adjuster is recessed within a hole in the primary cover. you cannot put a ring spanner on it because the cover is in the way, so you must use a socket of some sort.

^^^this is an image from the 1963-1970 triumph manual that i have on my laptop screen. the only way to get it here is to take a picture of the screen with my phone and then upload the inferior image.

i could try that. but the problem is with this site. no other site i visit has this problem:

    britbike.com
    triumptalk.com
    triumphrat.com
    jockeyjournal.com
    chopcult.com
    sidecar.com

    . . . and various others.

all i need to do on all those sites is post a url to a jpeg or png file, or to a photohosting site like imgur, and enclose it within the appropriate img tags, and the image appears inline within the post.

    not here.

the problem is only here, and it wasnt always this way.

for a very long time after i joined could post images in any normal way-- jpg, png, imgur url, hot links, whatever. no issues.

then a year or so ago, only some of that worked. if i attempted to post an image all i got was a red X on the post. if i selected alternate image codes (from imgur, for example) sometimes i could get a url that you could click on to see the image.

but the image itself would not appear.

i can upload an image from my phone directly, but the problem is that many images i use are not on my phone, but are on old photo hosting accounts, or are in image folders on my laptop, or are elsewhere. i dont use my phone for this stuff because the information available to it is so limited.

i could mess with downsizing images on my laptop or phone to see if that could wor karound the problem, but frankly, my life is too short. so i dont use images here much anymore.

but the problem is not consistent.

for example, here is the url for a random image on the net of a 1966 TR6:

    https://cdn1.mecum.com/auctions/lv0117/lv0117-263319/images/[email protected]?1485376652000

here is that same url enclosed within img tags:

    notice the image appears.

here is an imgur url of an image of the sort that i used to post here every day:

the imgur code is no longer accepted.

i use imgur as a photohost across multiple platforms, and it works everywhere except here. lots of old images i use here are old imgur files, but i cant make them show.

    nice TR6, isnt it?

im building a nominal 1966 bitsa TR6 to pull a sidecar. when its done, it will look a lot like this, to people who dont look very close.

^^^this is a 9 kb file, uploaded through the attachment application., which works fine for files of any size.

the problem appareas to be isolated to files from the th ephotohosting site imgur.

triumphforum does not seem to be able to process the recent codes. but since most of my images are stored there, they are inaccessible here.

here is an old photobucket image

no problem with photobucket, except that i wont pay their $400 user fee to get rid of their watermark. so here is an imgur file

The last couple times I cleaned and lubed the chain I ended up filthy and angry. I hate doing it, mainly because my bike lift doesn't fit under the bike. The lift is just a hair too high. I have to ride the bike up onto two pieces of 1" board to be able to slide the rig under. Because the bike is now precariously balanced on two boards, I have to have a third board to put the kickstand down on, so the bike isn't leaning too far, or enlist the aid of my wife to slide the lift under. God bless her, but she never gets it right. So, I ditched the lift and use one of those roller gizmos under the rear wheel. It just makes it so much harder to continuously change positions and rotate the rear wheel a bit to expose another section of chain to clean.

So, I just bought this lift. It looks pretty simple and should make the job a bit less of a pain. I'll let you all know how it works out.

Yep you cannot beat a paddock stand, if you don’t have a centre stand.

    yo baza

its not my photo. its the url from a random photo on the internet.

heres an imgur code for a 1972 T120 modified with two spark plugs per cylinder, so as to be able to run on 87 octane unleaded petrol. i routinely use this code all across the net to make images appear:

    ^^^nada.

here is the same image copy/pasted from imgur:

    ^^^nada.

how are you copy/pasting these images? if i can do that, my problem is solved.

I'm viewing these threads on my iPad and any image touch and hold and a drop down menu appears which includes copy. Having copied you can post it anywhere.

Here’s the image from the post above yours.

    upload_2024-12-14_23-51-44.png

This shows the pop down menu.

I've used one of those universal paddock stand lifts with the 'L' shaped supports on my last three bikes, works perfectly.

I have recently added spacers behind the spring clip to position the supports at the correct width for the Triumph swing arm, makes it even easier.

A quick instant way to reduce file size is do a screenshot of the desired image.
Post the screenshot which will now be compressed and you still have the original for other use.
    ;)

im using windows. on a laptop.

in any viewing, edit, or reply window on triumph forum, when i right click on an image, a drop down menu appears with "copy image" as one selection.

when i right click that selection, a popup appears that reads "image copied."

in that window or any other, when i subsequently right click "paste," nothing happens.

nothing is pasted, nothing appears. however, when i right click "copy image address, the following string is obtained and can be pasted into a reply window

    https://www.thetriumphforum.com/attachments/20240601_162028-jpg.172014/

if i click on that url, an image appears.

if i enclose that url within img tags, this appears:

so it appears that i can use this method to copy an image within triumphforum.

here is the same copy-image-address-paste-image-address applied to an image stored in imgur:

and here is the imgur jpg image code:

here is an image hotlinked from the net using copy-image-address-paste-image-address:

    https://wallpapercave.com/wp/tGDhnGy.jpg

here is that same image enclosed within img tags:

    using windows on a laptop:

so it appears that the copy-image-address-paste-image-address provides useable codes for copying an image within this forum, and for hotlinking images from around the net.

i can also upload images directly from my telephone to this site.

and now suddenly the imgur link appears, where it didnt appear before:

    https://i.imgur.com/q0sbNh7.jpg

and enclosing the imgur image url within img tags gives this:

sorry for taking up this space, but id like to fix this once and for all.

if i click on tbe first five and the seventh, they open the imgur page and display the image. they do not automatically display the image within the post.

the sixth url is the one i use everywhere else on the net. it does not work here.
