New Battery, Not Firing Up Strs 765 2017

12.3v is too low. Should be more like 12.8v for a fully charged battery. Also check that the battery terminals are nice and tight. Fuel gauge will start to register shortly after you start riding.

 

@Ski123 If you can try to jump to your car battery briefly just to get that extra kick.

 

Just looked at the spec and it is quite low 135 CCA and only 8ah. I would think that it is only just about capable of starting the bike. My old 885 speed triple has a 210 CCA and 12 ah battery in. Also at 12.3 volts it probably was not fully charged.

 

....but not with the engine running. Car alternator output can be high and damage puny motorbike electrics
and Triumph starter cables tend be a bit weedy too, so be certain all cable fixing points are clean and secure
and as @sprintdave points out, 8ah is a bit on the small side anyway

 

May also help if you pull the clutch lever at startup.

 

Am no expert on electrical systems; neighbor tried to jump start his Honda riding mower from a battery charger with a start button - fried the charging system on the mower.

Another neighbor tried to jump start his full size Cadillac sedan (battery under the back seat with specific instructions on jump starting which he ignored); engine started but blown switch deep in the dash required repair - dealer price $1200.

So, I am very hesitant on jump starting.

 

Do you not have too anyway? If the battery is anything like my 2021 model Striple it’s not very big so the 8 amp/hour rating would tend to confirm that it’s only just big enough to do the job from new. When I renewed the 12 amp/hour battery on the Ducati I managed to rearrange the components under the tank to enable me to fit a larger 18 amp/hour battery that’s still going strong after 14 years.

 

Hi Ski, firstly the battery you bought is the correct OEM unit, did you charge it for 24 hours prior to fitting, failure to do this can lead to the battery to fail to maintain a full future charge. the new battery would not be fully charged. The battery in situ should read a voltage of 12.8 volts, when running it should have a charging rate of between 13.5 and 14.5 volts. Regarding the screen flickering it could be down to a number of issues, firstly check the earth is clean and secure, also do not be tempted to jump start it from a car or van, it will damage the electrics on these machines, I know it is a bit late now as you have fitted it, I use a low power pack attached to the batter leads prior to disconnection as this maintains a current to the EMU and prevents issues arising. If you have the Dealertool just plug it into the diagnostic plug and you can see what fault is there.

 

Listening to your bike it says to me its fuel delivery. something there is blocked. Check the pipe work also the tank breather pipe.

 

Certainly not ebay, too many ripoffs in there.

 

I tend to use Wemoto for stuff like that. Pretty good on price and good response times. On another note, lose the postcode off your sig

 

If you are looking to change the plugs you will probably find your handbook lists the plugs as NGK. You might consider upgrading the plugs to platinum or even iridium which I have now installed in my Ducati. As for where you buy these, I would have a look at Wemoto, as mentioned above, a firm on the south coast which I have had excellent service from in the past.
