I've had this 2016 Triumph T100 since July. It isn't the water cooled, just has the oil cooler. It always started fine in the summer. Now that it is getting colder here in Arizona (40˚F) it has a heck of a time firing up. I ride almost every day so it doesn't sit much. Still you have to crank it for a long time with the choke before it fires up. Then it needs to warm up for 5 minutes or it will spit and sputter if you try to drive off. Once it is warmed up it runs fine. My question is, is this normal? My old 2008 Honda 230 fires right up every time.
Thanks to all you Triumph owners. This is my first Triumph, I've ridden Jap bikes for 50 years.

@masiman Surely you need to start as normal without revving or touching the throttle and a minute or two to settle and idle. Check your plugs they may need cleaning or replacing.

Thanks Joe. It came with NGK Iridium Plugs, I just installed some new E3 plugs yesterday. I'll try starting it today and see if it makes a difference.

Update on the E3 spark plugs... didn't make a difference. It took 3 long cycles on the start button with full choke before it sputtered to life. It is 40˚ this morning, good thing I have a Lithium battery in it.
I guess these Triumphs just start hard when cold. My old Honda 230 fires right up in 1 second!

Could it be the lithium battery? They are not fond of the cold. It should start fairly easily, 40F is not particularly cold.

I don't think so, it reads 13.2 volts and turns over nice and quick, just doesn't come to life until it cranks over for a while. I've tried NGK Iridium plugs and E3 plugs, makes no difference. Probably the pollution crap that's installed on it.

That sort of performance is not normal. Probably need to have a good motorcycle mechanic have it over night. You need compression, good fuel delivery and solid spark. One of those three is probably not up to snuff. How many miles on it?

"These Triumphs" aren't generally hard to start. My crusty old Speedmaster starts right up, generally needing the enricher only 1/2 deployed. It is in my garage, but regardless, it fires up even after a long winters nap. I turn the key on, let the pump to its thing, set enricher and start. I never touch the throttle during start up.
Good luck, I hope you get yours to cooperate!

I know the place well... climate here is great except for the summers! Then we go to the high country to cool off.
