Insurance Claims

Be careful if they offer you a lease bike in the meantime. My mate was knocked off his Thruxton a couple of years ago and had a couple of Yamaha`s while his was getting repaired. The bill came to over £30 000! Fortunately he was covered but some folk aren`t so lucky.

 

@ajc400 I think that is a whole load of old tosh. I had that lot a few years ago who said I had to gain the police report which we all know the police do not release the report to the public. They would not help in any way and I lost a case where a driver knocked me of by nudging my bike as I filtered. I had witnesses but they didn't even try to contact them. I contacted Bulldog and ask them to carry out the repairs which they accepted so I told Carole Nash who agreed so i called the Carole Nash breakdown service in the policy and they did the delivery free of charge.

 

I'm with Bennetts, had an off in Scotland a few years back, 4th dimension transported it back to their assessors which were a few miles from where I live. They had told me I could leave al my gear in the panniers etc but when I tried getting to my bike to collect the stuff it was all being dealt with by a 3rd party and I had real trouble tracking it down, eventually got to it as they were loading it onto an artic to be taken to a breakers in Wales. Apart from that they paid me the full amount it was insured for.
I have heard though that it can take an age for repairs to be done, the problem being that if any part has a slight scratch or blemish they will replace it for new so it comes down to the availability of the new parts. Hopefully I'm wrong on that part

Sounds like a warning to steer clear of Bennetts.

 

When I made a small claim on my Bonnie from a sub 10mph drop it ended up going to 4th Dimension. I was very worried once I researched them but in my case they were quite good. Resprayed the tank in my chosen colour, but did take ages to process, though this was during covid lockdown. There was only minor scrape damage and the bike came back very well repaired as far as I can tell. Having said that I have seen lots of really bad reviews on 4th Dimension.

I don't think it is the broker, e.g. Bennetts that determine if the bike goes to 4th Dimension, but the actual insurers which is likely to be MarkerStudy. Not sure if they are still called that but they are one of the biggest, if not the biggest, motorcycle insurer. Regardless, you can insist on sending your bike to whatever repair shop or garage you want in any case if that's your choice, just need to ensure that happens at the scene which can be difficult given the cicumstances. I'd get the bike recovered to my house or a known garage you trust if you are in a position to do so and take it from there.
