As motorcyclists we have to realize that there are a million ways a-holes can mess with our bikes, so a key'ed tank vs. the Oberon, is 1 million - 1. It's a lot easier to just push the bike over, cut wires, slash tires, etc., etc. So, I go with what I like the looks of and what functions best. Hands down the Oberon cap.

When I was younger (a) was my choice. Now? I'm going for (b) and I'll make the insurance claim.

Ok, you’ll got a good point. Unfortunately, this means I need to search for a quick release cap. Looking online, I found several stunning looking caps. Downside is that one is from Tamburini, for mv Augusta / Ducati, but looks like hard core p**n... other one is from TWM, which looks nice as well. I’m looking for one with a kind of flat outside surface, because I have a quick release tank bag from givi with a “connection” ring mounted on the gas cap bolts... dilemmas!

Anyone any pictures / ideas about a suite able, flatsurfaced, gascap? I’d love to get the Tamburini one, but can’t find a dealer, or the specs if it even fits on a RS...

Ok... found out that neither will fit on my speedy. Crap. Upside: makes the search easier! Even found an electric one (aprilia fit) unlocks for 60 sec after ignition is switched off.

unfortunately not, but as mentioned earlier: I’ll put the cap on the pump, or in my gloves.

Personally, I don’t mind the fact the fuel cap is opened with a key, I have to faff around getting my wallet out anyway so it’s only a few seconds more to get the key also. Now if they could make fuel fill ups walletless then I’m aboard.

I’m from the US so I’m nervous about what “faffing” means, so I try to avoid it :p

Besides one less thing is better IMHO!

How did you go with mounting the Givi tank lock ring on this one?

Agree. My non-fob key is on a tag in the pocket with my wallet. The fob is in another pocket where it is never removed.

    Hi mate.
Probably going to go this route as well as I also have a Givi tank lock ring fitted all the time & this one looks nice & flat.
I pulled the standard cap off to have a bit of a look & noticed that the tank vent gets covered by a rubber 'bung' fitted to the original cap.
From pictures I can see that the TWM cap has a plastic tube coming off it. It looks like there is no way that this tube would fit inside the 'nipple' in the tank, nor would it fit (& stay connected) to the outside of the "nipple" as it is cone shaped.
So my question is, did you just leave the tank vent open, & if so have you had any issues with leakage, or water getting in?

    cheers

hi, when you remove the original cap, there’s a hole on the left hand side (9 o’clock-ish) where I ran the tube trough. No issues what so ever with leaking or water getting in!

By way of an update - I spoke to Oberon at the NEC show last month, about the seal on the underside of the cap occassionally falling out.

The 'underside' o-ring does nothing by way of sealing; it's purely to give the cap a smooth feel as it tightens up. The rubber expands when in contact with gasoline and if it comes free, drying it out for a while will help the re-seating process. The Oberon guy said to press some silicone grease into the groove, before seating the o-ring, as this will help to glue it in position. I tried this and it seems to work a treat.

    Is there a screw missing?

Or is this the one which is underneath the lift up cap on the OEM fuel cap?

I’ve fit the Oberon keyless cap today. Overall happy with it.

OK I know this is late but that Oberon cap did not fit well on my Triumph Speed Triple. It goes on fine but the when the cap is screwed on, it is not even close to even (north/south) as shown on your sons Daytona. I contacted them for a fix and they said they are hit and miss and do not promise a perfect fit. Well my OCD mind can't handle it so looking for another option. They did offer to refund my money but the shipping and customs was over $100.00 on its own. At least i'll get about 100 back which was nice of them.
