    Hi All,

I've recently had an instinctual love of the Bonnie reborn with the passing of my father.

I'm currently trying to track down his original Bonnie from the 60's with some good feedback so far but I will also buy a 2016 Bonneville T120 Black as the thought of a nearly 70 year old bike as my first is a bit daunting to say the least!
Only thing is that I'm 21 (22 in couple of months) and this will be my first time riding on the road so after I have taken all my tests and passed I'll only be able to ride up to a 35kW bike.

Has anyone ever had any experience with a Bonne T120 that's been restricted and how well did it actually run? I wouldn't want to destroy the engine that made my dad love the bike so.

Just a side note, if anyone has ever heard of a Bonneville T120 that was purple and was in the Colchester area in the early to mid 60's any information would be greatly appreciated as this was the old mans bike.

    Cheers!!

    Hi Mate,

Not sounding daft at all, I should of mentioned, photos of him and the bike number very few and between myself and couple of his old biker mates we're trying to locate these now.

Completely understand about the privacy, just hoping it's still around!

Hi half pint, since a lot of us are old duffers were well past restricted licences and some are ready to hit the other end of the restricted spectrum, er not me though. So we're not much help that way. There is on the other hand a lot of asylum help on here!!:rolleyes:o_O

    Hi Half Pint and welcome,

Not sure about a restricted T120 but I would think that somebody here will be able to help.

On the question of the purple bonnie that belonged to your father there is a good chance that it may have come from RW Parkinson who were Triumph dealers in Marks Tey at that time. Unfortunately Ron Parkinson left us some time ago but his son was running the business from the Cowdray Centre when I lived in Colchester. If still there they may be able to help or know somebody who can.

    Cheers and good luck

Agree with ht - it's a new bike in big demand at the moment and I very much doubt any one has bought one with the idea of restricting it! Why not consider the older 865cc model?

Hi Speed, Cheers for that I hadn't heard of this before now so will follow this up straight away and see what fruit it bears for me :)

That was exactly my thought as it's only just come out and near on £10k on a bike to then be restricted does sound like madness, it more than likely is..
I have considered going for the 865cc but I'd only be able to get this second hand and I'm rather sentimental like the old man and would like to buy a brand new bike that I will be able to keep for years and years to come. The old mans Bonnie will become a project to bring (if it isn't already) back to pristine condition but with a couple bits to honour the old fool

Cheers for all the help guys greatly appreciated !

Surely dealers must still have plenty of new "old" 865 Bonnies for sale?

Good point actually, seeming they're not particularly old! I'll have a ask when I pop to one next weekend

Not ridden one of these yet but I did ride a GSF600 which was restricted to 33 bhp.
You are restricted to 47 bhp on A2. I found when I was restricted the bike was fine up to about 90 mph but after that it did run out of steam.
So it tends to be the top end that you lose out on.i would imagine on the T120 Max torque will be low down in the rev range , just remember that when out riding and plan overtakes etc.
All you will need to do is adjust your riding style to the limitations of the bike and your own of course.
