Tec Exhaust Systems

    Hi, Has anybody tried a Tec exhaust system, and can give some feedback? I have seen a2 in to 1 systme for Hinckley twins on eBay for £200 which sounds reasonable, but I want to make sure that is a decent system. Would the engine need to be reprogrammed by a dealer? Thanks, Jonny.

    Which bike and year? Can't comment on the TEC system but regards reprogramme I believe if nothing else is changed and you leave the baffle in it should adapt with the 15 minute idle. But if it doed you can probably go to a dealer and get an arrows 2-1 re-map for a small (ish) fee

    @Helmetgurus Yes i had one on my 2011 Bonnie. Awful system it was loud and the bike did not accept it for some reason. I ended up putting my bike into Bulldog Triumph and they had a night mare setting it up.

    Apparently the fit & quality is very dubious. But that statement is based on info I was told a couple of years ago.
    TEC might have upped their game since then?

    I've had 2 into 1 on my 2013 Bonnie for several years now. Mine has been good for the price, I kept the baffle in and it was a very easy install. Only issues I've had are the join from the silencer to the mid pipe leaks, had to put a ton of silicone on it and it's just starting to blow again, and there is another internal baffle that broke free. This is apparently quit common and I got a local welder to fix it for a tenner. Way lighter than the stock exhaust, sounds ok to me, but would probably go with weslake slip ons if I had the choice again.

    I haven't tried a TEC complete system (including down pipes) but on my 2019 Speed Twin 1200 I've fitted a TEC decat pipe and slip on exhausts and they have worked fine for a couple of years. Being a Euro 4 bike, the ECU adapted without any "outside intervention", whereas I believe you can't do the same with a Euro 5 bike.

    I purchased my 2015 Bonneville Newchurch around 6-months ago it came with a Tec s/s 2 into 2, short silencers, system no decat, or crossover pipe, each pipe is separate, not sure if the previous owner had any ECU software updates?
    I'm more than happy with the fit and particularly the sound, baffles in of course, however I did have a snatchy throttle at low revs again inherited with the bike. So since ownership I've fitted a booster plug, DNA air filter, air delete kit, and 02 sensor removal kit, and finally Iridium plugs. Now it runs like clockwork no snatchy throttle, better throttle response. So in conclusion I can only say I'm happy with Tec system, which I believe now complements the other upgrades.
    The only problem I have is if the bike is left for 10/15mins its sometimes a pig to re-start, again inherited with the bike and before any of my mods, fine once its going almost like a lot of bikes of old where the fuel in the carbs would evaporate when left a while due to a hot engine.? :confused:

    I have the TEC end can on my Scram1200XC and it's perfect. Small, light and not too loud.
    I think anyone saying these systems are too loud must have removed the baffle because they're sold as road legal in the UK.

    Did you do the 12 minute tune after fitting all those bits. That would let the ECU learn the parameters and adjust the fuel mix to suit everything.

    I've got a 2011 T100 and I had it fitted with a K&N air filter, fuel booster plug and SAI delete kit and a pair of Weslake Shortys Pro polished SS slip on exhausts. It ran like a sick dog, coughing and spluttering despite doing the 12 minute tune routine. So I went back to the OE silencers and took out the fuel booster plug and hey presto, normal service was resumed. Sometimes keeping it standard (or nearly so) is best.

    Hi blacktiger, actually no I didn't tbh I've never heard of the 12-minute tune, bike is running so nice now not sure if I need too.??? Probably done a 1000 miles or so since doing all the mods so far so good. Any how I'm curious now what is the 12-minute tune and would my bike benefit from doing it now.???

    @Kernow No if your bike is running fine let it be. The check is if you have a fault light or the bike is misbehaving then sometimes the 12 minute cold hot start can make the bike correct itself. And you may have to do it a few times from cold. But no just enjoy the bike.

    If you put a new air filter in for instance, the engine suddenly get's more air flow so the ECU has to adjust its settings (adaptions) to give the correct fuel mix. A dealer can and will reset the adaptions with their plug in tool after a service. The 12 minute tune basically does the same thing which allows the ECU to learn what's going on with all the sensors around the engine. But you can do it at home without a computer. If you've already done around a 1000 miles it will have done that over time so there probably no point in doing it now.

    Yeah thanks for the info guys, I'm going to take your advice and leave well alone, as the old saying goes if it ain't broke don't fix it.......:cool:
