I work for a UK manufacturing company of motorcycle electronics and we are looking to expand our catalogue. Are there any known issues with classic and modern Triumphs which we may be able to look into, mainly ignition problems?

Some owners of the new Speed 400 and 400X Scrambler have experienced occasional problems with bikes stalling, mainly, but possibly not only, when slowing down and downshifting when coming to a halt.

The current Triumph software update does not always fix this.

The ride by wire throttle is also very sensitive/jerky, although that may be a common occurrence with ride by wire systems!

675 street triple stator plates and rectifiers.

Known issues plus a section of repair cable with the appropriate connection jackplug in the middle.

    ;)

T300 triples (91 to 98 -ish) had/have a tendency to self destruct the starter sprag clutch if the battery voltage is marginal for the load at start time. A monitor/indicator/automatic starter button "kill" in the circuit if the battery's cranking capacity is detected as marginal - maybe set up to flash the ignition on light as the tell-tale?

@Melanie Spiers Welcome to the family. Do you ride a motorcycle if so would like to see it here by hitting the upload a file button. But great you are looking into faults. If you read through some of the topics i am sure you will get to know the many faults that wind riders up

Thank you Joe. I don't think my old Honda Melody, which I used to whiz around on many years ago can class as any form of motorcycle, but I do like the classic Triumphs and BSA's. This is more of an R & D project. We have catered for the classic market for a good 35 years and some of the old bikes just aren't around anymore so we are trying to develop cost effective after market products which can solve common problems for possibly the more modern bikes - are full list of products can be found on www.electrexworld.co.uk. We also offer a discount to Motorcycle Owners Club Members.

    Interesting footnote in red.

So are you saying @Melanie Spiers to later "upgrade" to a lithium battery like some people do, the person needs to be fully aware of what reg/rec is installed on their secondhand purchased bike?

I could see that being an issue for the majority.

Please can you give more indepth detail on this, and how someone could come to the decision whether to fit a lithium battery or not safely?
I assume fire is a distinct possibility through overcharging.

@Melanie Spiers Have book marked your site as it looks very good. And nothing wrong with the Honda melody if you were brave enough to ride one. Now you need to get yourself a Rocket Three.

    Welcome to the forum Melanie.

When I eventually start on my old Tbird I intend to fit one of your digital lighting/ignition alternator kits. Back in the day I converted it to 12 volt and ran without a battery using the Lucas 2MC capacitor system. But with your kit I can also do away with the distributor.
