A while ago I compared my Renault Clio to the Austin 1100 I learned to drive in - similar cars, similar cabin space, entirely different dimensions!
Crumple zones, side impact protection, air bags, not to mention all the driver "aids" and electronic crap modern cars are stuffed with means bigger and heavier. It's called progress, by some.
