Hi all, I have a 2016 Tiger 800 XC (longest I've owned a bike, and love it), other than starter had no issues up until now, it was a little difficult to start, than it just wouldn't, I'm scrambling about a bit, but today tested the ignition coils and got the following readings: Primary: Coil 1 - 1.36 Coil 2 - 1.36 Coil 3 - 1.36 Secondary: Coil 1 - 9.45 Coil 2 - 9.43 Coil 3 - 9.50 From what I can find they should be: Primary - 0.8 to 1.2 Secondary - 11.5 to 12.0 So, I'm getting high on primary and low on secondary, at £100 I don't want to replace them unless this is an issue, can anyone enlighten me?
I can't enlighten you, but given that all three coils are pretty much identical, and given that three coils simultaneously failing is stretching probability somewhat, l wouldn't be in a hurry to replace them. Haynes have been inaccurate before....
I have the full factory manual for a 765, can't be that much difference and I wouldn't be surprised if they were the same unit. I'll take a look later today and post you some numbers up
Here you go @Richard Sharkey this is from the 765 factory manual although I'm not sure if it's going to be helpful to you or not, as the numbers don't appear to match yours. It might also be worth checking the pick up coil sensor whilst you're there.
Here you go for some more general information to hopefully point you in the right direction Note, I don't have the same model available as yours but some details will be generic.
What's the spark test look like? Take all x3 plugs out and add crocodile earthing leads to each threaded part. Crank over and observe the sparks for colour and intensity. Let us know your findings, a pic or 2 would be ideal?
Thanks for the pointers, all seems to be a red herring, managed to cobble together some croc clips and all appear to be sparking nice and bright, must be fuelling issues
