Hi folks. I am new to the forum but not to bikes!. This year is my 50th anniversary of riding. Quick question..... I have a 2010 TB America and I want to fit a USB charger to my handlebars. I have read somewhere there is an accessory plug somewhere, maybe under the tank dash board. If so, this would save me running a new cable under the tank to the battery. Any chance of a pic of it? I have 2009 Speedmaster and recently fitted a Quadlock phone charger to it. I’ve been over my wiring from top to bottom and there is no auxiliary plug anywhere I know of. I ended up splicing into the horn circuit because it is keyed with the ignition.
Thanks buddy. My idea is to use my optimate charge lead off the battery which hides behind the side panel by the solenoid. The USB lead I have bought has conveniently got an sae plug that fits!!! I can unplug it when I need to use my battery charger.
I would be surprised if a 2010 bike had the USB port that's fitted to later models. Of course I may be wrong! On the more recent 'classic' lineup it's usually under the seat, not too far from the battery. That's where it is on my Street Twin and similarly with the T100, T120 etc. However, I found I couldn't get a good connection when plugging in my iPhone. So I went for a handlebar-mounted USB charger and chose the one from Ultimateaddons (as have others on this forum). It has 2 ports (USB and C), shows battery charge and most importantly can be switched on or off. This means no messing about with the bike's wiring and there's no chance of draining the battery when the bike isn't in use. It's easy enough to run the cable from the bars back to the battery. I didn't need to lift the tank. I managed to cable tie it to other wiring that runs under there, and with a bit of fiddling connected it to the battery and mounted the USB port on the bars. Took me about 45 minutes. I've since ridden the bike to France, spending the first day in pretty heavy rain, with no ill affect to the charger. It's currently on sale at £19.99 + £3.49 delivery, which I think is great value.
