Just heard that the staff at Barnstormers Maidenhead had their staff turn up today thinking they still had a job. Only to be told you are now redundant. How fair is that to the workers.
Nah, legal enough. My old employer did the exact same thing last week. People came in and were basically told don't take your coat off, we're going into liquidation. Now sling your hook and apply for redundancy payout....
Not quite been in that predicament but not far off. The government redundancy pay is, or at least was, useless. Back in 1993 I was made redundant and they used the government calculation of the time. I had been there 3 years and 10 months. Only full years counted Why? Cost cutting? I received £205 × 3 years £615, what good was £615 when I was the breadwinner with a mortgage? Hopefully these people will soon find employment as their records and cv's will reflect nothing negative on them. Just as an edit and to put the above into context. I went self employed, and my business partner to be left the power station to join me by taking redundancy. He had 7 years service, so less than double what I had. He walked out with £11,000. Life can be hard but if you get up and dust yourself down, get your 5hit together, it will make you a stronger and greater person
Without sounding political, so much for Labour saying they are strengthening workers rights, it is awful what some get away with, look what happened with the staff at P and O ferries and Steam Packet (racket). It has a profound negative effect on people and their families, shocking behaviour, often companies just wind up and re emerge with a new name but same owner, Total Triumph's MD is just such an example. Hope the staff find alternative employment soon.
Can't blame Labour they are working so hard they just gave themselves a well earned large pay rise. No doubt from the cold weather payment.
Strewth, give them a bit of time. It took the last lot 14 years to do fuck all to protect the working man...
@MightyBoosh Sure enough they have made a great start taking away the winter fuel payments so if we have a cold winter all the old coggers will kick the bucket and then they can get another pay rise.
