I had a test ride on a Speed 400 a couple of months ago and found it very snatchy at lower speeds when coming on and off the throttle.
I have been looking for a lighter, smaller bike for some time in view of my advancing years and stumpy legs! (This year I have held my motorcycle licence for 60 years)

I went back and had another, longer test ride on the Speed 400 today and loved it, the fuelling was much better and smoother. A software update maybe?? I made the decision to bite the bullet and buy one that was in stock, hopefully I will collect it next week.

I added the 2 years extra warranty and figure that by the time the warranty runs out I shall be over 80 and could be at the end of my motorcycling days!!

I've had my Speed 400 since May and it's a great bike, bought for the same reasons, wanting something smaller and lighter.

Yes, there was a software update done at my first (600mile) service which addressed the engine management light coming on for no reason, and may have improved low speed/rev fuelling, although it can still be a bit snatchy due to that ride by wire throttle, and I suppose being a 'big' single. You get used to it.

2,500 miles on the clock now, and it has 'loosened up' nicely. I did a weekend tour on it without feeling any limitations from it's small capacity, although I try not to be on motorways too often. Handling on twisty A and B-roads, is so much fun.

What colour did you go for?

    Hi ajc400
Thanks for the note I'm pleased to hear of your positive reports on the bike. I have gone for a black one, on the basis that the local dealer had 2 black ones in stock, and available for immediate delivery. If I had waited for a red or blue one it could be in the New Year and by then the price probably will have gone up!

I have arranged to collect the bike on Thursday and then hope to put some miles on it before the winter sets in.

Just seen this on the International Speed400 site ...

Triumph have launched an updated version of the Speed 400 in India.
Will it follow to the UK I wonder ?
    What has changed ?
    1. Gets Vredestein Centauro tyres.
    2. New colours options including Yellow and White.
    3. Adjustable brake and clutch levers.
    4. A redesigned seat with 10 mm height increase.
5.The exhaust is now completely blacked out.
Also, presumably for India only, there is also another new model, an affordable version called Speed T4 with engine power lowered to 30bhp !

I've never liked blacked out bikes much - give me chrome every time!

Maybe it is because black paint covered a multitude in the days I was running beat up old cars and bikes! ;)

@ajc400 Yes i like chrome as well. And like you think it is right on bikes. Just though the whole bike was quite nice. We could soon put some chrome on there to spruce it up a little.

Here is the cheaper version Speed T4, with the cheaper forks and no bar end mirrors etc

I went to the Hitchcox exhausts open day for the launch of their systems for the new 400s. Certainly increased the volume and looked very nice indeed.

I also see it’s 2.1Lakh, which is roughly £1950!!! Doubt we’ll see it in the UK at that price!! :))
