This is a post to help those with Bonnevilles who wish to see oil filter options other than the stock Triumph oil filter (T1218001), which may run $17. I have also seen posts from folks who like the K&N filter (~$18). Addition information on this topic may be found in this thread, which I started back in 2021: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/specific-questions-about-a-couple-st-filters.342746/ It appears that the ST7317 filter has been phased out by SuperTech (Walmart). Below is a table I created that gets you into the Fram world. In one table, you can see comparative specifications and nominal prices. I am liking the *7317 series, which are ¾” longer. For $4, I really like the PH7313, which I am now using with great results.
Good question Pegscraper but I don't have that. And haven't seen it ... My hunch is that they're equvalent.
Assuming non OEM filters are equivalent to the OEM items can sometimes be a mistake IMO. Not all filters are the same. They may be worse, as good or even better than stock but only proper testing can show that. Filtration performance is far more important than saving a few $/£ on an oil + filter change.
All good thoughts Pegscraper. Kinda goes back to your original post ... The table I created has specs for the Fram PH6017A, which is its replacement for the Triumph T1218001. In a parallel sense, it woud be nice to see equivalent specs for the Triumph filter, but I have never seen such posted anywhere. I bet there's an efficiencey parameter for oil filters and if so, it would be nice to see one posted for both the PH6017A and the T1218001. Then we'd have somethign to talk about.
I updated the chart I created and posted to add info on Filtration efficiency and Mileage rating per Fram (see above - 2 rows at the bottom). Unfortunately, this forum template would not let me delete the original chart (tried several times) so there are 2. I'm now leaning toward the TG, though with a sensible oil change interval (OCI) - I like 4000 - 5000 miles - all the *7313 filters are probably acceptable.
Here's a final update to the chart after closer scrutiny of the Fram filters: Actually, the filter socket is 67mm. For all practical purposes, if the ratings can be believed, I think I can live with 99% capture of particles >20μm.
