Tiger Sport Whining Chain Noise

    The abs seems more keen on the lower gears so get it up through the box to minimise abs interference.

    Might be wise to cable tie it back so you don't take it for a spin :confounded:

    I came across the same issue some time back, the person had a new chain and sprockets fitted, then straight away it began to whine, when I looked at said chain it was the wrong pitch, although the website stated it was, a new chain and sprockets fitted and the noise disappeared, first I would check the chain is correct as you would be surprised at how many parts are labelled incorrectly.

    Interesting. Having spoken to the garage I use for MOT’s etc., (he is also an avid biker), he has suggested exactly the same thing! The return date on the chain is past, and whilst I have contacted the seller, I do not expect a response. I am on tour from Friday this week, and couldn’t get a replacement chain from a reliable dealer until …Friday! So, I’ll have to wait until I return to order and fit… Hopefully this will cure the problem… Thanks.

    I ordered and received "DID Black X-Ring Chain 525VX3 122 for Triumph Tiger 850 Sport 2021-2023” and that is what it said on the box. For a 525 chain, the pitch should be 5/8” (0.625mm). I have just measured mine and it is 0.64” pitch!!!. On the centre stand it runs well - no clicking, tightening but obviously at speed it whines.
    Very odd, as it is too close to be an incorrect chain. Maybe a Chinese copy ???

    If the chain itself is stamped 525 then that's what it'll be. I assume you mean 0.625" not mm. How have you measured it? I've never had any issues with DID chains.

    Yes, of course I meat to state 0.625 inches! Slip of the finger!!
    I also have never had an issue with DID, but when you have spent as much time and effort checking all other possibilities, all that remains is the impossible.
    As Iceman said, he has heard of an issue with pitch on a chain, so I need to investigate...

    Did you manage to find out what the cause was? I've the same issue with a DID X ring, ruled out alignment and tension but bike is in for a service in 2 weeks

    I think your last sentence might be the case. If I were you I'd visit a reputable local shop and look at another chain and measure it before paying for it.

    Yeah.As it turned out, whilst the pitch was in fact OK, the chain was not! Had to chuck it in the bin finally - seller didn’t want to know or even reply. Think it was a Chinese chocolate chain...

    Bought an RKD and so much better, although still a slight whine as you go through the gears if you don’t change up quickly enough! Also have an oscillating noise at low rpm but not enough to investigate!

    Kind of. I bought an RK X Chain (very helpful people there), and fitted it to the 850. Made the slack 40mm and the noise was much less, but still a bit of a whine in low gears as I accelerated up through the box. At cruising speed very little to complain about.
    Then changed the slack to book recommendations (25mm - 35mm) to 30mm. Notice that noise is worse! Will set it back to 40mm (or even a tad more) and learn to live with it...

    Really hope I don’t have to go down that route! 3 chains in as many months would be a very expensive fix...

    The original chain I got 21000 so can't complain.....it just goes to show original parts from the dealer is the best option.....I bought the DID VX3 chain from Kwackies off ebay at £85 and I've contacted them......it's done 250 miles and has a tight spot already!!! So decided to go to my triumph dealer......hopefully it'll stop that bloody noise...

    Interesting! It was Kwackies who supplied my 'Chinese chocolate' chain…
    Avoid them like the plague!

    2 chocolate chains then.....not good.......I'll await a reply and if not happy with response I'll report them to ebay....

    Try buying from "Squaredeals Triumph". I've used them for years and never had a problem with anything they've supplied.
