Dry weather for a change, so I got a last minute B&B in West Tarbert and had a weekend riding around the Kintyre peninsula A83 down to Campbeltown, B842 back up. All on smooth, well maintained roads (remember those?) with no potholes, no cycle lanes, no 20mph speed limits..... pure bliss!

Thanks for the write up of your trip. We were there last year, staying on Arran and a ride down the peninsula and back one of the days. I think you had better weather than us though.

Did a similiar route to you a few years ago in the motorhome.
Carradale harbour was full of decent sized fish, and met a work colleague by chance 300 miles or so from work in Campbeltown.
    Nice area.

I drove this area, and right up the west coast (NC500 roads) and round to John O'Groats in my Dad's VW campervan...... but that was in 1976!

Oops wrong photo, meant to be this one of the old camper - it used as much oil as it did petrol!

It just goes to show you don't necessarily need a big bike for touring. Many moons ago myself and my wife rode down to Sicily on a Honda RS250 single. Great photos btw. :)

My girlfriend (now wife) and I went to the Isle of Man on a BSA Bantam in 1972 - well, she took the train down to the ferry, but after that it was two-up everywhere on the little 175 two-stroke.

My bike had engine problems and was awaiting parts!

Met x4 guys on the isle of man on Honda 90's.
They went everywhere, including trail riding, and we kept catching up with them at different random destinations.
We were on big road bikes, myself on a Honda 1000, but I sensed they were having more fun

Reliability is more a requirement than size ( yes I know there's a line there :joy:).

@ajc400, what a lovely trip! Your photos make me yearn for the water---living here in the desert. Looks like beautiful weather and certainly spectacular scenery. I loved the photo of Tarbert Harbour in particular. I do have to say, though, you pack lighter than I do! :joy::joy::joy:
