Beans are completely inedible to me, just not food. Neither are strawberries or ice cream. All disgustingly inedible things to me.

That’s me with strawberries, what’s worse than finding a slug in your strawberry?
    Finding half a slug!!!

Mushrooms are great as long as they are hot so I usually attack them first.

Just had a response back from the Gliding Club with the menu. I think you’ll agree the prices are very reasonable. Dunstabubble here we come.

I had a similar experience and at the point of them presenting the bill I laughed and said is that a joke! When the priced was confirmed I walked away. Maybe we should all not accept these prices and do the same. They’ll soon either lower their prices or go out of business!

We need to appreciate what inflation has done to the cost of basic commodities during the pandemic, but some establishments are just taking the P155.

Yes some are some better than others. I use a little Café in Burnham High Street called Burnham Bites not a biker café. But I love it there and its reasonably priced. But what I love is she cooks everything from fresh and uses Italian coffee and is so friendly. Really I do think now if it is good food then sometimes its fair to be that little bit extra. But some others are dumps and seem to charge the earth. And I do like the McDonalds coffee so I am sorted. Joe

I only use the layby cafes where there are lots of lorries, I figure if it's good enough for truckers it'll do for me on the bike. The prices are fairer usually and good portions plus unlike Costa, Bucks etc, they can make a good mug of tea. I've only been to Macdonalds a couple of times, for my grandkids when they were young, and wouldn't go there ever again even for coffee.

I'm resurrecting this thread as I took Bikerman's advice and my girlfriend and I called in at Wickenby aerodrome this morning. We both agreed, its a nice place, nice food and well worth a visit IMO.

We did, there was a guy upstairs who gave us a talk on the airfield's role in WW2. The squadrons (I believe he said there were 2) that were stationed there. and other interesting stuff about the planes and the staff who were there during that period from about 1941 to the end of the war. Brave, brave people many of whom didn't return from the bombing raids. We will most certainly go again, there were a couple of other bikers we got chatting to who said they usually end up there one morning every week. The bacon and egg sandwich I had was excellent. ;)

Well as before, glad you enjoyed it. Willingham woods is good too, apart from the normal idiots. Just be mindful of the average speed cameras that they've put up.

For those who might be wondering what was upstairs, here's a few pictures for you.

Mebbe I should ask admin to rename this thread to something like biker watering holes, the good the bad and the somewhere in between? :joy: Not exactly a biker watering hole this one, but similar to Eldon's post about a Church offering drinks etc. I've been past this one lots of times as the road between Wintringham itself and West Lutton is a lovely (albeit) short run at any time of year, but especially so on a day like today. The village is a couple of miles off the A64, East of Malton. The Church is open and has a tea and coffee machine with an honesty box and also some chocolate bars for those with a sweet tooth. There was no one around so I sat on a bench outside and soaked up the sun for 30 minutes or so before continuing on my merry way. 20240719_135211.jpg

    Noted ;)

I'm certainly not any sort of bible basher!
I was someone who was forced to attend sunday school around 10 years of age so it has actually created the opposite effect, however, I do appreciate the architecture and engineering that went into some of these magnificent buildings.
I often find myself standing there puzzling, how did they actually build these things and get all that mass of stone up there etc.

Yep, spent four years at The Royal Naval College, Greenwich during the exit of the Royal Navy and the occupation by the University of Greenwich and the Trinity College of Music. We have scaffolding, cranes, MEWPs and the like. How did they manage to construct such magnificent buildings?

Reading this thread from beginning to end did make me giggle.
The average bike owner will have no problem self-justifying the cash for a new exhaust, seat, helmet, farkle or whatever for their beloved machine, but ask them to pay a few quid for coffee and cake

That's a very good point mate. I recall I won a grand on the Premium Bonds about 20 years ago. I went straight out and bought a Titanium exhaust for the MV I had at the time which cost the vast majority of my windfall. Never told the wife I'd won. Lol. :joy: However just as a footnote, I've been going to another biker cafe not a million miles from the place that I was originally referring to in my OP. Speaking to several fellow bikers at the 2nd cafe, many shared my views on Cafe A and said they wouldn't go back there now. Seems like mud sticks?
