I use 10 w 40 Power 1 4t racing oil on my America and it has worked flawlessly in all kinds of temperatures. Living in Wisconsin that's what we get.
I have a 2023 Bonneville T120 Black and live in NE Indiana; local Triumph dealer recommended Castrol 10 w 50 Power 1; bought 4 quarts of that and will use for my first oil change at 600 miles along with a Triumph oil filter.
It really just depends on the temps where you live and ride. If I lived in the desert where air temps were consistently over 30 C, then I would use a 10-50 Weight oil. Just follow the manufacturers recommendation and you'll be fine. Brand I'll leave up to your.
Never known Modern Triumphs to use Castrol at present they use silkolene fully synth. But again like mentioned it all depend on climate and atmospheric climates. I would ask around some reputable dealers just to get a clue to what is recommended. Joe
I actually just bought a bunch of Shell Advance 4T Ultra 10-40 motorcycle oil for a very good price. If its good enough for Ducati, it should be fine in the Triumph. It's a full sync oil, SN, Jaso MA2 spec. The local dealer uses Liguid Moly
It tells all in the bikes hand book.....Triumph recommend Castrol 10w40 or 10w50 is hot countries....use the 50 grade if temps outs side are over 40c They also say semi synthetic or fully synthetic are both fine. I use Semi synthetic as I dont push my engine to its limits....and my bike may stand for long period during not good riding werther here in the UK. And as far as I know know Semi drains off internal surface's mush less readily than fully does so protects internal better against corrosion. This does not apply is the bike is never stood for more than a few days. Semi is just as expensive as fully. Of course it needs to be the correct spec of castrol....ie a motor cycle engine oil....will have a little motor cycle symbol on the container. ie Castrol Power 1 Racing. Do you not have an owners handbook....if not they can be downloaded free on the Triumph Website.
I did have....but it was a while ago.....it was a shell oil recommendation for aero engines that use a std motor oil. I know lots of people may think rubbish....but there you go.
I had a FZR1000RU in 1991 and Yamaha recommended Motul lubricants. I asked a guy on the Yamaha stand at the Bike Show that year why Yamaha recommended Motul specifically and his reply was, "they sponsor our race team Sir". Just sayin'. It's the numbers in the specs that count, not the brand IMO.
Absolutely! The brand is often chosen based on who is giving the manufacturer in question the biggest backhander at the time. As I'm sure you know, in a lot of instances it works though. If the owners manual says a specific brand & spec. Plenty of owners won't dare to deviate from that recommendation.
both you guys are right on and seeing Triumph uses Castrol to test there race engines, I guess that's good enough for me to use on my America.
Am late to this discussion; I am coming up on my first oil change on my 2023 Bonnie T120. However, have a question: been checking the oil level in the sight glass and have been checking it using the center stand. Owners manual does not indicate checking it on side stand or center stand. So, how to check it????
