I live in the USA but I have family in England. I was wondering if they could source parts for my 01 bonneville carb model easier than I can in the US. I would love a new petrol tank, or at least one without rust inside of it. Supposedly I can still order a brand new tank from Triumph, but they're priced at 900 bucks plus 300 for shipping.

I think you will be very lucky to find a new tank for your Bonneville at all and even more lucky to find one in the correct colour. World of Triumph and Fowlers parts show most as unavailable but one or two show prices, well in excess of £1,000. Is it possible to reclaim your tank by cleaning the rust from the inside?

There are several ways of doing this. I have had success by filling the tank with clear vinegar and a handful of M10 nuts, give it a good shake and leave it for a few hours, empty and repeat!!

Yeah, kind of what I thought. I did the vinegar procedure with good luck, followed by marvel mystery oil. However, my tank is missing sections of the lining in several places, so it's going to be very prone to new rust. I have a new pingel valve, which has a great fuel screen. Plus I change the fuel line and replaced that tiny fuel screen that sits inside the line. Hopefully that'll be enough

I suppose there might be more breakers yards over here in the UK but the tanks will likely be in the same condition as yours inside.

Seems I recall a product being sold to re-line the inside of tanks after a good cleaning. Might search for such.

I used something called "slosh" to reline the tank after the vinegar and nuts treatment for a week.

Seems to have held up well over the last 24 months

There are a few tank coatings but they seem to all fail over time, causing more issues than the current rust.

Be careful with tank coatings some don't work well with ethanol in fuel and some fail over time. Regard them as a last resort when all other solutions have failed!!
