Hey Annoyingly I’ve a puncture after 600 miles :-( So out goes the Super Corsas on the RR. I’m off for my first service soon, and the hopefully off for a 6 day trip from the midlands, to Germany. Knowing this. Do I get Road 6 M9rr Roadtec Prefer sporty over hyper miles. But I’d perfer to get back from Germany with a tyre (rear), that’ll do the rest of summer riding.
I can't comment on any of those specifically but having run Road 4 and 5's, which are currently on my 1050 RS, I have had no problems with grip or mileage from the Michelins. Highly recommended
A puncture can be plugged, done it many times. No need to throw away a good tyre. but a supercorsa won't get enough miles for a tour. Stick a road 6 on for your tour and keep that supercorsa and plug it for when the road 6 is done.
Bought some Road 6 - I've never had 'road tyres' before. The least sporty tyres Iv'e had is a MRR. So I'll be interesting to feel the grip on a nice sunny day round the twisty roads
Hi BT81, I can recommend the Metzler M9rr tyres for the journey you describe, I recently fitted a pair to my sons Suzuki Katana 1000 and they transformed the handling and grip considerably. I only run by STRS 765 on Supercorsa or Racetech RRs, however they would not last the sort of mileage you describe, the M9rr will make the ride height very slightly higher due to the profile, however you will still be able to get both feet flat on the ground. The mileage is really good on the M9rr tyres and they offer fantastic grip levels wet or dry. Hope this helps.
Too late ! :-( I bought the Road 6 prior to the two messages. I'm pretty happy that I'll be able to get a shuffle on the Road 6 on the twisty roads.
I’ve got Road 5’s on my 1050RS, a little different turn in I thought but you soon get used to that. Highly recommend them. The 6 should be even better I guess.
Fitted Michelin Road 6 tyres to my Speed Twin. The original Metzeler Roadtec RRs lasted 3000 miles, but to be honest I was pleased they wore out as I had little confidence in the wet. I had a few rear tyre slips on wet roads which made me think twice about a ride if there was any chance of rain. The ST felt great with the new tyres; but they always do when new. Looking forward to putting some serious miles on the bike now.
I have just been offered a set of the new Bridgestone S23s at cost price and free fitting, I was getting another set of my favourite Metzler Racetech RRs, but when this was offered it was too great to resist. I will post something when I have run them a few miles, also I need to carry out some remedial work on my bike that is becoming rather interesting, I will post photos along with my thoughts on the SS23s.
I'm hearing good things about Dunlop Mutant tires; that's what I'll probably put on the Speed Triple when the current tires wear out. I recently put a set on my supermoto and am very impressed.
I considered the Dunlop Mutant tyres; I had heard / read good reviews of them. However, when I enquired the price my local tyre dealer said Dunlops are expensive. He checked the price and they were a few pounds cheaper than the Michelin Road 6s. As I had confidence in the Road 6s (I have them on my other bike and they are still good after 9,000 miles), I went for the Road 6s. It would be good to hear the experience from others of the Mutants.
I guess time will tell. I've never used the Road 6, but have plenty of miles on earlier versions on a touring/sport touring bike (Ducati ST4S and BMW R1200RT). Great tire for that, but I think the Mutants may have the edge when it comes to cornering and wet weather riding. The tread pattern is similar to road racing rain tires. Probably not much of a difference between the two for most riders, but with an aggressive rider on a sportbike the Mutant might beat the Michelin. On a sport bike I prefer something stickier than Michelin Roads - better feeling at high lean angles at speed. My favorites for that were the Dunlop Q3+. Will be interesting to see how the Mutants compare; they should last longer.
My new Michelin Road 6 tyres were fitted to my Speed Twin four days ago, I've put 920 miles on them now (467 miles yesterday). They have transformed the bike; UK roads are awful, rough, pot-holes, wet and slippery with mud etc. I now have more confidence in the corners even when wet and slippery and they have reduced the jarring I was getting from the Metzeler Roadtec RRs. For long distance riding they are well worth trying. Agreed, not as sporty as some, but I don't tend to be hanging off the bike with my knee down.
