Hi all a couple of questions please. I want some heated grips as I’m on meds that make my hands cold quickly, I’ve got a scrambler 900 and a set of Oxford retro grips are £89 but a set of touring grips are only £45 same heater and controller different grip pattern and 3mm for the retro one. Is it worth the extra money?

I want to put a side canvas or leather bag on the bike to carry some junk around with me, so the question is what sort of hanger have people got and what sort of bag/ pannier, small to medium to Cary spare gloves and another layer. A lock and a fell tools and of course a flask and biscuits.

    Thanks all

From memory the main difference between the various Oxford Hot Grips is the grip pattern and length. If the Touring grips are a similar length to your existing grips then they should work fine.

I used the Touring grips on my Tiger 800 and was very happy with them. A good pair of gloves such as Richa Cold Protect is also worthwhile.

BTW if your bike has a fly by wire throttle then check the throttle tube before buying the grips. Some throttle tubes are pre-grooved for heating elements wich increases their diameter and means they need to be sanded down to fit the Hot Grips. I bought a used throttle tube for my Tiger and modified it to let me get everything ready before fitting.

Worth remembering that whilst heated grips heat your palms the cold is coming from the airstream on the backs of your hands which is where the heating element is in heated gloves.

I was looking at heated grips but, with more than one roadworthy machine, I have decided to go the heated gloves route.

Measure the length of your existing grips and then get the Oxford ones of the same length, they can be trimmed a little, the Oxford website tells you how much can be trimmed. Lf the Touring ones are the correct length - happy days!

Also don't forget, as has been mentioned earlier, that grips will only warm the palms and not the back of your hands. If you don't want to go with heated gloves then look at hand guards, they deflect some of the wind from the back of the hands.
