I've used this stuff on all kinds of leather - bike gear, car seats, casual wear, old and new - whatever - and it's never failed to provide a better feel to the article.

 

I use this, which is ok.

 

I am using just a conventional transparent leather grease normally two times a year Due to bad weather it can be an additional treatment too.It works really well for our leather jackets.

 

Mink are considered an invasive species and a danger to indigenous wildlife here in the UK, and consequently are shot on sight. This means they've become very wary and tend to keep their heads down, making it tricky trying to catch the blighters in order to squeeze out their oil. And of course Brexit put a stop to imports of mink oil. I've found stoat sebum, or even weasel wax, far easier to come by and just as effective.

 

Chain it to the back of your bike and drag it down nine miles of gravel road.

Depends on what state the leather is in. If it's very dry and brittle, Carr's leather oil used sparingly is very good. The old solvent based Nikwax (not the newer water based stuff) is also excellent. I've also used some McGuiar's stuff I bought for the leather upholstery in the car.

i spoke with dawn at bates leathers in america about cleaning and softening my race suit. its been about 15 years and they were dirty and stiff.

she recommended lexol cleaner and lexol conditioner, available at auto parts stores for conditioning leather seats .

i used a half bottle of cleaner and a whole bottle of conditioner on my leathers and they were transformed. softer, more flexible, and they stretched out to fit me again. i treated them repeatedly until the bottle was gone. the oils soak thriugh the leather over several months.

the problem with mink oil is that it smells like dead minks. i remember dissecting them in school. lexol is a better choice.
