I was channel hopping on the TV last night and came across the episode where Henry Cole is riding around on a DOT scrambler. Before we go any further, this isn't a thread about Henry per see. Let's just say I don't like his presenting style which is why I don't normally watch the programme and leave it at that. I know he's got his detractors and his supporters. Because I don't watch the show , I'm assuming this was a repeat. Allan Millyard was putting together a Suzuki GT750 and there was a section about FS1E's towards the end. The bit I found really interesting was the V8 Norton Concept bike which Allan was asked to get running. I suppose I'll have to watch the next one to see how it worked out, but I'd never heard of it before. I was working and living abroad in the late 90's, so perhaps that's why, being a V8 it certainly looked a big old beasty, perhaps a V6 would've been more compact, I suppose we will never know.

Yes it is a repeat of the series which was first aired last year. You may not like Mr Cole but it is an interesting watch just to see the genius that is Alan Millyard at work!

I think any show on national TV extolling the virtues about bikes has got to be a good thing, whoever is presenting it.

I don't know is they're still on, but we had two mc related shows over on this side of the pond. They were mainly about building bikes that were special orders for celebrities and tribute bikes (9/11 memorials and such). They would drop crate engines into frames, usually clones of Harley style V Twins. One was the asshats on Orange County Choppers. The builds were often useless, fantasy motorcycles and they'd engage staged in family drama. The other featured builder Jesse James, who, if the show was to be believed, appeared to be a pretty talented metal fabricator. He was also producing stupid looking (for the most part) impractical bikes. I keep wishing someone would produce a straight motorcycle related show featuring reviews of bikes of all makes, old and new, rides and engine builds.

Without Henry Cole....we would have no bike shows on TV.....Without Henry Cole you would not be here asking questions.

My god.....there are far far worse people on TV....myself I think he is great...met the guy in person....real down to earth man.

Cheers for the info. Sounds like an interesting episode, I'll have to try and find it on catch up.

Cole phobia aside, I do quite like the format and most of the content of the program although their choice of machines for restoration wouldn't be mine. In the last series they restored and raved about a "famous", chopper type thingy which I'd rather vomit on than sit on. What a pile of shite. JMO

I hardly think saying "I don't like his presenting style" is slagging him off. And no, I wasn't forced to watch the programme.

    Take a chill pill pal

OK, lets try a slightly different tack. It was the V8 Norton prototype I was interested in and that was the reason I started the thread. The guy at the motorcycle museum asked Allen Millyard to get the bike running and then challenged Henry Cole to break the speed record for a V8 Motorcycle. Someone else mentioned these programmes were repeats from last year. Did Henry Cole attempt the record on the bike or is that something planned for this year?

I think Cole and Millyard set the two up record on that V10 thing that Millyard built but not heard anything about a V8 record. Sam Lovegrove is my favourite presenter on the program when he's on and in the Shed and Buried series when he and Cole find old bikes hidden away and rescue them.

This is Alan Millyard's 6 cyl Z1, taken at a local bike show around 18 months ago. If you didn't know it's history you'd say it was a factory bike it looked that good.
