Hi all - I’m wanting to fit a gear indicator and asking if anyone has done this to a similar Tiger. I have seen that there are a few available and from what I have gleamed the Healtech GiPro is said to be the most user friendly/reliable but I’m open to others suggestions based on actual experience. Thanks in advance.

As ever I’ve no patience - spoke with Healtech UK earlier and ordered one. I’ll give some feedback once its arrived and I’ve got it fitted

I've had GiPros fitted to a few bikes, mainly Hondas but also my 2010 Sprint ST1050, and I've always found they worked as advertised. You have to remember that the gear number won't show up until you've released the clutch and even then it can take a second (seems like a lifetime sometimes!) to register. The downside of that is if you're sitting at a standstill in traffic with the clutch in, and supposedly in a low gear (hopefully 1st) all you see on the display is ---. I've never fitted one myself, I've always had it done by a pro as I'm a numbskull when it comes to electrics and electronics. I've found that red is the easiest colour to see in most light conditions, but you may find a different colour suits you better.

I fitted one to my 2011 Sprint GT 1050 (connected to the diagnostic port), and found that it didn't work worth a damn. It is long since in the bin. I don't recall the manufacturer, so I'll be interested in your feedback as I suspect that your engine and ECU is similar to mine.

The GiPro on my Sprint is connected to the multi pin plug (I guess that's the diagnostic plug) that sits in the right hand storage compartment in the fairing. It stopped working once but I found that I'd accidentally dis-connected it by squeezing in a tool kit. I simply plugged it back in, taped it up tight with some black insulating tape, and it worked again, good as new. The Sprint ST and GT are similar in some respects but I think Triumph updated the electrics / electronics significantly for the GT so the ECU in your GT may be different to that in my ST.

Just to update. The £105 Healtech GIpro DS-Series G2 (GPDT) part number GPDT-T01 WHITE turned up mid week and I fitted it today.

Plugged in to the diagnostic socket and tapped (soldered) in to a switched live feed. Routed from under the seat round the right side of the tank and through the fairing side trim to sit to the right of the clocks. The indicator lit up fine when the ignition was turned on but the weather is too rough for pulling the bike out and running the setup, so that’ll have to wait for now.

Happy to report that the ‘Learning’ of the gears by the indicator went without issue and all appears to be working correctly.

It stopped raining briefly enough this afternoon which gave opportunity to pull the bike out and do the set up. With the bike running up on the centre stand it was all very straight forward.

Wasn't fit to go out for a run, but went up and down the gears a good few times and response is within a second I’d say of releasing the clutch for the display to change to the gear you are then in. I’ll give an update for how it performs on the move after the weather offers a chance for that to happen, but so far I’m very happy.

When I spoke to Healtech before the purchase they did say the Series 2 units are a lot better than the first generation. Mind you, he was selling them so who knows - I’ve no previous experience to go off.

With the Series 2 you do get options the previous model didn’t have - you can fine tune the response, increase/decrease the display brightness and even invert the display if it works out better routing wires to come from above rather than below.

As you can see I opted for the white display and I’d say that’s in keeping with the bike - had briefly considered red, but that was the fireblade side of me coming to the surface I think

Finally got out on the Tiger to put the gear indicator in to real world testing and alls well. Shows the correct gear within second of releasing the clutch. Not confused if you change down (or up) by a few gears at a time. Was a low and bright sun but the display was still visible - I’m happy with it.

I've had one on my Speed triple for several years now, it displays 0 when in neutral (and always finds it) and from there will detect moving to 1st even at idle rpm. But from there it needs the rpm to be above 2000 to detect the gear, below 2000rpm it will revert to displaying a dash -.
Just wondering if that's still the same for the series 2 ?

No, not seen that - it works a treat. I’ve no experience of the previous model but the latest one works exactly as I expected it would. Gets my recommendation (for what its worth :joy::joy:)

Yes, in normal riding mine works fine too, it's just there's a small gap in revs between idle at 1200rpm and riding at below 2000rpm where the mk1 software obviously wants a gap for whatever reason. All the system is doing is comparing road speed data with engine rpm to determine which gear to display. I was just curious as to whether the mk2 is any different (you'd probably need to ride specifically looking for it to even notice).

Hmmm - I’ll give it a go next time I’m out, but it didn’t have any issues when I ran it up and down through the gears at tick over on the centre stand.

Decided I’ll be SORNing the bike so in a brief dry spell I got the bike out and running on the stand. Tried it up and down through the gears in the <2,000 revs you had issues with and couldn’t get it to replicate the issue you’ve seen. Hope that helps @Col_C
