Has anyone ever seen this on their exhaust or know what might be the cause? I just purchased this bike used with 500 miles and it had a few spots and now it has spread quite a bit. I wasn't sure if it was a chemical reaction or something more serious. Thanks for your help!

Not seen that before. I wonder if it could be the result of a previous incorrect cleaning regime?

Where is the rear brake reservoir in relation to this exhaust? Maybe it’s from leaking brake fluid.

I think you are correct and a gentleman at my local shop said something similar. I applied some rubbing compound and it looks new again. Thanks!

Hi Kevin, I have seen this happen to many machines, it is caused by using cleaning agents designed mostly for cars and commercial vehicles, rather than a specific quality motorcycle cleaner such as muck off or XCP, these commercial cleaners are cheap to buy in bulk for dealers, the same thing happened to some new model press bikes at a launch when they were cleaned with a commercial cleaner. The only remedy is to remove them, rub them down with wet and dry, then apply primer and heat resistant matt black.
