Tiger 900 Gt Pro Tyres

Forgot to add that I have got 8500 miles out of the rear, and 12500 out of the front. Of course, that was in my non-hooligan days…!!

 

Ive bought a set of Michelin Road 6’s for my triumph 900 GT Pro but am having difficulty in seating the beads for the front tire. Because of the difference in size from the stock tire they are not sitting close enough to the rims to inflate them with my air compressor, even at 80 - 110psi. Any advice would be welcomed.

 

The michelin front tire size is 110/80/19 whereas the stock tire is
100/90/19. I think I may have kinked the edge of the rubber when manoeuvring it over the rim thats stopping it from sitting properly. I’m going to have one more try before I admit defeat and see if i can find a friendly mechanic to help.

**UPDATE**
I had one more attempt this morning. The air was still escaping around the rim, so in Looney Tunes style I plugged the leaks by pressing on them, and wholla, it was enough to let enough air in to get past that initial stage and it popped in place. It definitely helped leaving it over night, not only for my sanity, but to let them recover their shape. The tire does look superb now in place and I look forward to testing it on the road. I’m pleased to be moving away from the Metzlers, I never really felt 100% confident with them.

I’ve just had my Continental Trail Attack 3’s moved over to my 850 Sport. The front is 110/80/19, so I was a tad concerned about the difference in size, but all has turned out well and Franks of Colchester did a great job!

 

Hello Ian, early days, but I'm already noticing a vast improvement over the Metzlers. The bike now turns in smoothly without seeming to pitch over so abruptly. I'll post an update after a few more miles.

 

Hey there, in a while I’ll have to change my stock tyres, and I’m 100% convinced I’ll try the ContiRoadAttack 4, probably the sportiest tyre you can have in the Tiger 900 GT Pro. I will obviously change front tyre size de 110/80, but there’s something in my mind telling me to try out and fit 170/60 tyre on the rear… I know wider doesn’t always mean more grip, but it does make it more agresive and for sure you do win stability when curving at high speeds… I don’t know, what do you guys think about? Have you ever heard someone doing something similar?

I’m not so sure about fitting a wider tyre on the rear. i’ve been told that due to the tyre wall bulging slightly more, the handling is compromised.
Never tried it so I could be talking out my exhaust...
