Hi i have a 10k mile 2011 865 SE I am noticing some noises like noisy tappets or rattling when running Is this normal or could it be something to worry about ? i have read about sprag clutch issues is this a symptom ? if valve clearances are out could this cause a similar noise thank you sorry if this has been covered i did a few blank searches
Well you can definitely forget about a sprag issue. That is to do with the starter, your noise is during engine running. I'm not sure about the twin nines but on triples the valve train tightens with wear. Cam chain? Loose or leaking exhaust? I'm sure more expert replies will come soon.
My 2010 SE (11k miles) is a pretty nice sounding motor, so rattles aren't normal in my experience. Can you hear it when you're riding? Or at standstill? Does the noise change if you operate the clutch? My Hondas used to sound awful due to clutch rattle, as did my ZZR. I suppose the oil's been chaged?
It's mainly when moving along not too bad when clutched. I was sold it as had a full service. Going to take it for a check up tomorrow I wonder if a valve space checkup will help
