    First fettle - change the petrol tap, as the original Ewerts tap leaked, despite having boiled the cork seals. I don’t have spare corks here, so it was easier to put a new tap in.

    New tool tray bolted on.
    New handlebar grips.
    The repaired hi-lo beam switch failed, now waiting for a replacement.

    May I ask, after you’d cleaned out the petrol tank did you use any sealer inside?

    Refurbished the carb with an Amal kit, now running much better and the annoying leak from the carb gasket has stopped.

    Went for a spin today and the crash bar fell off!
    Also need to reposition the front mudguard, strengthen the side stand arm, and tighten the right hand exhaust down pipe. Apart from that, all is going well.

    British bikes of that era are never really complete. Every week, there is a new trivial adjustment or minor repair or small defect to address. At least, that's my experience.

    I'm riding around on a 4 year old electric Zero motorcycle, and I'm amazed at how I miss the need to constantly fettle this bike. I'm coming up to my two year anniversary on this bike, and literally the only maintenance it has needed is some air in the tyres. No wiring or fuses, no carb leaks, no exhaust rattles, no blown light bulb, no oil leak from the clutch cover, nothing. It's like that part of the film where the hero says "It's quiet ... too damn quiet." This is also one of the fastest motor bikes I have owned - not faster than my BMW R1150R though.

    That right hand exhaust pipe is probably the most vulnerable part of your motorcycle.

    The carb was a problem - it’s non-standard and has a huge flat spot half way through the rev range, probably because the Goldie style pipes have been swapped for a standard exhaust. The easiest fix (but not the cheapest) was to get a new, correct carb from Burlen. What a difference! It’s much more easy to rev, and accelerates well.
