1996 Thunderbird Randomly Wont Start

Hey there!

I already read the "If your bike wont start try this" thread but I am not sure if my case applies to a problem described there.

My 1996 Thunderbird randomly wont start after I rode for 1-3hrs. Battery is OK and if I put the bike in second gear and push I can get it to start. The mechanic already replace the solenoid, so this shouldn't be the problem (or maybe he replaced it with and old faulty one)? When I push the start button I hear the click of the solenoid so it should work I guess?

Can this problem be caused by heat? One day after the solenoid was replaced I had the same problem but after not using the bike for 3-4 days, I could start it again with no problem.

Should I replace the pickup coil? Are there any other issues I (or the mechanic) can look at?

The bike was in the garage for more than a day, but wont turn on. So I am assuming that everything is cooled down. Do you still think, it could be the ignition pickup coil?

Also, I'm not super sure if I translated ignition pickup coil right when searching for parts (language ) Is it this: https://www.triumphworld.de/product_info.php?products_id=127602&language=en

I brought the bike to the mechanic and it has been several weeks but they still couldnt figure out the issue.. Just randomly wont start after engine is hot. So because of your input, I asked if the ignition pick up coil you mentioned could be the problem. The mechanic then said it cant be, because otherwise you wouldn't be able to bump start it (which you can). Is he right?

Yeah, when the problem occurs (hot engine) you can bump start it. So if I understood you correctly, you are also of the opinion that it shouldn't be the pick up coil, right? Maybe I should look into the three ignition coils..
