What a bummer, Aaron. I hope you can get your needed parts in a timely manner. I ordered parts for my Fat Boy in Jan. 2022 and they’re on back order until Jan 2023! But at least they are parts that aren’t necessary to actually be able to ride my bike unlike your dilemma. Best of luck to you.

 

It does seem a shame that your iconic all American machine is waiting on parts because they are no longer manufactured in the US, seems a very similar story to Triumph fingers crossed they turn up early @Sandi T

Commute for me; lovely few hours spent on the bike in this weather (apart from the bit through town...).

 

I've been getting a tapping noise from the top end on the Scrambler just lately, not "WTF is that" loud but annoying enough to require investigation. I suspected a sticking cam chain tensioner for no other reason than I had a similar problem with the hydraulic tensioner on the Berg some years ago, obviuosly a completely different bike but the same basic design of chain tensioner.
I decided to get the tensioner out and have a quick look, yeah I know it's in warranty but it's the faff of getting it to the dealer for a diagnosis, then booking it in etc,(plus I like taking things to bits). It's also relatively easy to get to but does mean removing the valve cover to do it safely. When removed, the tensioner should fully extend but I noticed it didn't extend all the way so, suspecting maybe a broken spring, I stripped and cleaned it. Nothing found, all parts looked perfect and on reassembling it tried the operation a few times and again, perfect, this time with full extension. WTF? Put it all back together (changed a couple of shims while I was in there) and the noise is gone! The only parts changed were the O rings which looked OK anyway. A result, of sorts, even though no fault positively identified. Ah well, it passed an afternoon.

The bike is fit and well and the Service guy Ian was super helpful. Then a great ride home on the twisties to avoid the m5 gridlock and 3 counties show traffic

 

Ian was very helpful to me when I wanted to source a seat cowl and I have been talking to Chris booking my service for my Street Triple in a few weeks' time and he has also been brilliant to deal with .

 

Another commute for me today in the lovely weather .

 

I nipped onto town for a bit of shopping and decided to take the long way home via a run out into the Peak District and maybe call at the Strines Inn for a refreshment. Unfortunately, there must have been an accident somewhere as the Police diverted everyone onto a narrow B road which turned into a " Single track with passing places" bottleneck. Sat in stationary traffic for ages with no room to pass in a 29 degC nightmare, I felt like one of those cook-in-the-bag chickens and never did get to the Strines!

 

Gutted! Never like to hear this about new equipment.

 

Had a lovely evening stitching together a trip through Devon and Cornwall. Plenty of others out too, a few even seemed friendly!

 

Yeah, can't say I'm a fan of having it happen either. However, I'm hoping that once this episode finishes, my bike will have gotten its dose of drama out of the way, and we can get down to having some serious fun together.

 

I had a few hours out this morning around the Brecon Beacons - a lot chillier than I had anticipated .

 

I had to have a new cylinder head on my new R1 in '98 when a small weep of coolant from the head gasket turned out to be a flaw in the head casting. I was gutted, not helped by my inherent mistrust of dealers but, fair play to them, I got the bike back looking and running perfectly!

 

Sounds like an adventure, @Pegscraper. But unfortunately, not the good kind. Mr. Sandi and I and our two riding buddies had a similar "adventure" a few days ago on our big summer trip. I can completely relate to your comment about feeling like a cook-in-the-bag chicken. Fortunately there were very few other instances of road work that affected us to any degree. It's miserable stand in stock still in traffic on a motorcycle with no idea how long you'll be like that.

I've been commuting on it for the last couple of days. Speedy likes going to work, even if I don't !

 

I guess if you have to go to work, you might as well enjoy the journey!
