I'm an army brat, old man was a Para for 22 years.
So grew up with the military.
Nearly joined the Navy on a flying commission but decided against it in the end.

I was in the cubs too, green six. I worked my way up from the ranks to Seconder and then up to Sixer. Served my full term. Great days and great camaraderie.

Ex RAF, Junior Tech (corporal) Ground Engineering Flight mech eng techie, aka, 'Heavy'. Got a rapid promotion from AC to Cpl cause I part qualified when I joined part way through my civilian apprenticeship, (employer went tits up). Left after doing 8 years, the RAF got me my BSc (Eng Physics). Missed it so much 5 years later joined the RAFVR, (now RAuxAF) as a photographic interpreter, Cpl acting Sgt, completed 2 years course and made substantive Sgt, loads of exercises, courses, etc. 8 years later up to Flt Sgt then final 6 years as Squadron WO. Did a total of 22 years as an Auggie until I had to jack it through old age and decrepitude. Still miss it 5 years later.

Whats with the RAF classing themselves as military? Not known as the 4th emergency service for nothing, and keeping the world hotel chains in business since 19 0 something.
(For some reason it wont show smiley faces).
