Getting there. Here's a question. My 2011 came with a competition werkes exhaust installed (and the stock cans in a box). Can that pipe fit (or be made to fit reasonably easily) the 2019+ models? The one thing i hate in bikes is under seat exhausts. I don't know why that ever became a thing. The cw pipe is sold as being for 2011 to 2015 my. Pics of both bikes sure make it look like the stock exhaust systems are pretty similar. Would be quite nice if I didn't have to shell out extra for a low mount can. Thx.
None of the bikes in this class have a decent passenger seat (Aprilia Tuono, Speed Triple, KTM SDR, Yamaha MT10). Unless she is 4’-9” and weighs about 80 pounds; then the seat and position would be ok. If you want a supernaked with decent passenger accommodations the only option I can think of is the Speed Twin. It has a decent seat, legroom for a full size person, other than a little vibration thru the pegs my wife says it’s great. Up to about 100 mph it’s as fast as anything in the class (reference BIKE mag August 2019 for the numbers).
She's happy enough on both the 1050RS & the SDR 3.0 - I have grab rails on both. The SDR is pretty high to climb on.
Haha fair enough, she used to sit on the back of my MT09, but she is close to those numbers that you are referring to So she might be alright. I was just more worried about overall cushioning, body position and vibrations. But if your Mrs is happy with it I'm sure mine will be able to live with it as well. Cheers for that. Gotcha, makes sense, she is on the shorter end so hopefully she can make the climb.. might need to invest in a buss pas otherwise (oh no....)
Well, you guys convinced me. I did it. Found a very fairly priced 2019 with 4k miles at a triumph/bmw dealership about 1000 miles away. Said dealership has glowing reviews, many from people who bought bikes sight unseen and had them shipped. So on Tuesday I made an offer which was accepted. Bike will be here in early April. Part of the deal includes a set of the oem heated grips, which I'll install myself. I should be able to move the add ons from my 2011 onto it. The rear grab rail and the tail bag that's mounted to it, the competition werkes Slip on (will require a small extension) and the laminar lip windscreen (may require minor modification). I'll return with my review.
Terrific! The OEM heated grips are a brilliantly sanitary installation; there’s even an indicator light on the TFT dash. You realize that this didn’t happen without pics. We look forward to seeing your new ride!
As far as I know most of the things you mention prob won't fit the new bike. Most things changed with the 2016 model and even more on the 2018. The slip-on pipe is another diameter on the 2011 if I remember correctly. Same with the flyscreen. The grabrail might fit but as the changed the saddle and design 2016 an onwards I wouldn't bet on it. Since the 2019 is the "older" model now with the new 1200 RS have a look on ebay for OEM parts such as the windscreen, grab rail. And sell the old bike with the parts on. I fitted the heated OEM heated grips on my 2016, a great investment, but double check the manual (can be downloaded from Triumph) so that you don't need to do any software updates since its enabled on the digital dash rather from a dedicated button as it was on the 2016/17. Oh, and congrats on getting a fantastic bike If you are going to do maintanance and other things consider getting the BT-ODBII gizmo and TuneECU.
I already have Tuneecu. The grab rail will 100% fit. It's the same part #. The screen is not an oem triumph. It's an aftermarket that's held on to the existing flyscreen by super velcro. It can definitely be made to fit. Same with the exhaust. Just needs a few inches of extension pipe at whatever size. The muffler guys who did the custom job on my VW also do motorcycles. If it cost more than 50 bucks to fab something up, I'd be stunned.
Cool, sounds like you have it all figured out When it comes to TuneECU its only the BT version that is supported, the USB doesn't work.
And here we are... It arrived recently, and I've been giving it the business. It's like a completely different bike vs the 2011. It's downright shocking the difference going from absolutely no tech, to all the tech. It's almost too easy to ride in comparison. Faster yet more refined, faster and easier shifting with a way smoother gear bow, more agile, much more confidence inspiring when cooking a corner on high heat. The noise is glorious too. My 2011 does a lot of popping and banging which gets annoying. But at the same time it's got nearly the same riding position which fits me like a glove. The seat is a bit hard. I am going to have to spend some time on setting up the suspension. It's at least a bit too stiff and I could feel the back trying to skate out at times. I only weigh 170 lbs with gear. There's no witness marks at all so I'm guessing it's still at factory settings. So... yeah. I'll swap over everything I can from my 2011 and then that one will get sold to someone new.
Yeah, it’s terrific isn’t it! I weigh about the same, maybe 165 with gear and I’ve dialed the suspension back to the “comfort” settings. Much better than the stock settings. It’s still taut, tho. Congratulations again. One of the great motorcycles right there.
Excellent! I gave up with the seat because as you say, it's too stiff for a "comfort" seat so I bought a second hand one on fleabay which wasn't from the rs and it's miles better tbh.
Sold the 2011 and the rs has gotten farkled up a bit with the old stuff from the 2011. Exhaust, led headlights, grab rail, and tail bag. Not much else to do to it. Really liking this bike. It's fast, easy to predict, comfortable, looks great, etc etc.
Congrats on the 2019 Speed Triple RS, @Ridebjj, and on selling the 2011. Your bike is looking good! I'm glad you're so happy with your choice to get the 2019 and sell the 2011. Those can be tough decisions to make. I have the same bike--and in the same color. What are the front turn signals and the tank / knee pads you put on yours? Oh, and in the photo you posted back in April, in "The hot hot desert" Las Vegas by any chance? That looks like Red Rock Canyon to me. My white '19 Speed3 RS
