Morning all, I'm looking at buying a 2008 1050 sprint ST but with around 40k on the clock. What are these engines like with that sort of mileage and higher? Anything to look for?
It does have full dealer service history.
    Cheers Waza.

    Hi and welcome.
40000 miles is nothing to these engines when looked after, if you have full factory service record and it is genuine it should be fine.
Were valve clearances checked, this is every 12000 miles and costs around 4 to 500 quid so check it was done.
    Rear shock worn?
    Front forks for pitting?
Starter not noisy....check with cold engine, any clatter walk away.
Reg/rec can fail leading to overheating battery.
Usual stuff, brakes, tyres, lights, check oil level and colour of oil.. Battery must be in top nick or starter sprag may fail which is costly, check readings standing and with engine running.

Thanks for the reply. I'll check the rear shock when I go back tomorrow. I take it the starter issue should it have it is a major issue? What readings am I looking for, output of battery? Its had the mod to the battery cables aswell. I have also checked the service history with the dealer and all adds up.
    Front forks are ok.

    Battery readings
    Fully charged. Ignition off 12.6-12.8
Ignition on but not running. 12.1
Bike running 2500 -3000 rpm 13.8-14.2. Or close to those settings

Battery cable upgrade is a good sign, bike should fire very quickly.

Starter (sprag) clutch is a major job and expensive, any strange clatter or banging or if engine struggles to fire from cold with a good battery be wary.

They are great bikes with a solid engine and a nice triple sound. Good luck.

Welcome to the family. Good bike the 1050 and only low miles if it has been Triumph dealer serviced. I do believe the 1050 had the sprag clutch sorted much better. Have a good look for the service history. And if the bike is the right price then its worth a good look.
    Joe.
